what gives, dubai atc

just trying to figure out the reason for the last minute change of runway on Friday evening. No dramatic change of wind, yet all traffic from west held due to runway change.

Tonto

The wind on the ground ( or lack of it) at DXB at night particularly can have no bearing as to what it is at say 500' One can find a screaming tailwind on the approach and if it is more than 10/15 kts depending on aircraft type then it it is not safe to land and for take offs the last thing one needs or wants is to encounter a strong tailwind .

FLY Through

Not a question of whingeing but safety although perhaps some pilots are lacking in the finer details of how to put the message across.
