Abu Dhabi/Al Ain Towers ATC provider
Are any aircrew getting excited about the possible change of ATC provider in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain towers?
Just interested because there has been quite a discussion over the past couple of months in the ATC forum about it, but that seems to have been mainly ATCO contributions. Nothing apparent from the pilot perspective.
For those who didn't know, the contract is being contested between Serco and NATS with a decision due soon.

I'm pretty certain that if NATS win the contract that their safety culture will follow them and that the last thing they want is to be landed (pardon pun) with the legal nightmare of liability in the event of an accident. The first things to be adressed will, no doubt, be training and procedures.
I'm surprised at your comments because of other folk talking about the "Dane" in DCA who rules the roost as far as safety and standards goes. I thought he was on top of it all.

As has been mentioned on the other long running thread on who wins the contract, there are many here who are amazingly uninformed about the facts out here, so here are a few quick ones to help you out.
1. SERCO or NATS provides bumbs on seats. They are in effect supplying the employees to the customer, and also are contracted to supply training to the local ab-initio trainees. They do not make Aviation policy, they do not change regulations.
2. The regulations and procedures on the whole are not dangerous and so there would be no "liability" issue for NATS. There is a safety culture here, NATS doesn't have a monopoly on that. Most controllers would agree things could be done a lot more expeditiously if some procedures changed but things are done safely here.
3. A change in contract will change who's name is on the pay check to the existing controllers here, and maybe a handful of managers will change. That's it. If all you guys shivering in the UK think you will get a holiday in the sun, this winter, in the event of NATS winning the contract you are dreaming. The cheapest and most efficient alternative for NATS on winning the contract, will be to keep all the already validated, experienced, and settled controllers employed here, and shake up the management a little to fit their needs.
Anyway they have to win it first and that is one huge IF.
