Class 1 medical renewal issue - can I temporarily apply for a class 2?

I'm fairly early into flight training going down the modular route in the UK. At the moment, I'm still working on my PPL but I've had some issues renewing my class 1 medical which I'm confident will be sorted, but may take some time. As it's hampering my PPL training, I was wondering if it would be possible and straightforward to apply for a class 2 medical in the interim. As far as I'm aware, the issue that's being investigated wouldn't prevent me from having the class 2.

To make things a bit more interesting, it took quite a few months to get my class 1, so I'm wondering if, where I tick "yes" to any of the questions on the application which also need referral from to a specialist, can the CAA or AME just refer to the reports that were produced for my class 1? Or would I have to go through the whole class 2 application process as if I'd never had one? Then, when it comes to the class 1, can I just renew this in the normal manner? Or does having this replaced with a class 2 just complicate matters further?

Thank you for any help or suggestions anyone can offer.

Look at your EASA Class 1 medical - it has respective Class 1 and Class 2 expiry dates. Once your Class 1 expires it will lapse to Class 2 privileges. The validity date of your medical depends on your age.

This assumes your Class 1 medical has not been suspended or cannot be renewed due to an existing medical condition. This may or may not impact your Class 2 privileges. You are best advised to discuss with your AME, that is what they are there for.

That's an interesting point about the expiry dates. I'm afraid it is suspended for the minute. I've got to wait at least a few more weeks until there's any possibility of anything changing, so I'll have to sit tight for a little while longer. Thanks for the input.
