Class 1 with Sciatica?
Hi All,
I'm just wondering if anyone can give me some advice as to gaining my class 1 medical.
I have had a class 2 as part of my PPL for just over four years. My intention has always been to go commercial but with work commitments I've had to take my time.
I am now ready to go for the class one however I've had sciatica for the past 8 weeks which could be touch and go whether it will eventually heal. It's caused by a L4/L5 prolapsed disc.
Does anyone know whether this will result in me failing the medical?

I do not know what the NHS is prepared to do for a prolapsed disk....but suggest you ask your local GP anyway.
You could telephone the CAA Gatwick ...talk to the medical staff and tell them your problem....they seem more keen these days to keep pilots flying if they possibly can.
