Urine Test...
Cholesterol Test
Blood Glucose
Hearing Test
ECG (Just testing your heart etc etc)
Blood Pressure

No need for runners, wear shorts if you don't wanna be stripped as they will make you lift your legs as high as you can, they will also feel down your stomach. Reflexes is awesome

You will also have to go to a eye doctor where they do an intense eye test put stuff in your eye that gives you double vision

That's all I can remember !!!

Crikey mine is due in Jan !

Oh and one thing I forgot, take your wallet

I just had my done a few days ago, and I must say I expected it to be ALOT worse than it was. I got the feeling that if you are remotly healthy you can pass. Urine test... Blood test (just a little prick on your finger)... Lung test ( I almost fainted from exhailing so hard and fast lol)... ECG (makes you lay down and puts little sensors on you and tests your stand still heart beat... Vision test is nothing difficult, if you can read normal font on a poster on your wall you are fine... Hearing test is the most difficult and requires a lot of concentration, sounds are VERY quiet... and then you visit a general doctor that test reflexes and stuff like that... as i said, if you are a tad bit healthy you are fine...

The worst part about it is the sitting around in between the tests. I was there 3 hours overall and for the 2 hours I was waiting around

Red face incorrect . . . . . . . .

They do also chest x-ray
Not for quite some years now . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . UNLESS, of course, a genuine medical reason to do one arises.

(in which case, the Class 1 might already be in some doubt)

Oh and i think the Chest X-ray is standard for a residents visa in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, maybe has something to do with that..

The xray is mandatory when you enter the country and apply for a residence along with blood test.
Nothing to do with the class 1 though.
I really do not think you'll have issues with it. Some colleagues with nicotine and sheesha addiction are flying happy...

Red face treated better here . . . . . . . . .

Sorry mate, medical class 1 in UAE includes chest x-ray
Fair enough, I stand partially corrected.

Let's be clear, then . . . . . . . in the UK candidates for JAR class 1 medical certificates being examined by the CAA at Gatwick are NOT subjected unnecessarily to the potentially carcinogenic effects of ionising radiation.

Red face gosh . . . . . . ! ! !

spot on
Am I misunderstanding something here ?

It almost seems to me as if you are pleased or proud that in your neck of the woods the certification authorities unnecessarily subject candidates to potentially carcinogenic ionising radiation ? . . . . .

I remember the day.....

I smoke 5 a day and was open and honest with them - they just suggested I packed up - no failure

Also - I have a big stomach, was sitting watching all the young guns coming in weighing 9 stone nothing and thinking "I am never going to pass this". Suddenly in walks a father christmas sized character (big red face) wihout the beard and on speaking to him find out his a commercial jet pilot.

He passed with no problems and so did I....

A lot of the Class 1 scare mongering is pure myth and comes from a smug few that have passed and want to scare others....

Really nice people and providing you are open and honest and of a reasonable fitness standard (ie you can walk) you will probably pass!

(Oh and have the big wallet of course!!!)

Smile nice of you to say so . . . . . . .

How very true ! I've stressed before that the crew of the good ship BELGRANO are NOT "out to get you" as many would have you believe.

I should make it clear, in view of my earlier mistake, that this only applies to the UK.

AMEandPPL, indeed there's a misunderstanding...
I think you are right with the unnecessary exposure to Xrays.
That's what I meant.

Initial class 1

Hi, I have my initial class 1 medical soon and just wanted to know from people who have been recently whether its embarassing or "probing" if you get my meaning. I'm not a fan of doctors and being nervous always puts my bp up so if anyone could reassure me about the whole process I would go in a bit calmer knowing what to expect.

Also is a bmi of 30.2 going to concern them at all? I'm in the process of losing weight but couldn't delay the medical any longer.

Any advice would be much appreciated!
