Class II medical tomorrow, I have the flu!
Hi Everyone,
I'm 4 hours into my PPL, based at Wycome Air Centre. I have a Class II medical booked with the AME based at the BAFC tomorrow. I've been battling with some flu and coughing and I don't know if that will be a problem for the examiner. I need to cancel the appointment by 3pm today to avoid recieving a failed appointment charge.
Does anyone know if the examiner will still be able to do the medical or will he not want to do the exam while I have the flu?
I called them this morning and the examiner wont be there till later today.
Thanks
Adrian

Apart from spreading ya' germs, your flu like symptoms could potentially cause a few technical problems with the exam.
So my advice would be to cancel.
Man'flu can be severe, it can be as bad as childbirth.

Ahhhh, the good ole man flu!
Thanks for your reply. I spoke to the AME and he said it really depends on how bad the flu is. He said it would be ok to let him know tomorrow morning how I feel and cancel then if nessasary. Pretty nice of him actually.
I dont feel too bad this afternoon, no fever, just a little but bunged up and a bit of coughing at the moment. I really want to get it done tomorrow. I book the day off work so I could go get it done... and an hours flying after it

It does have to be said adem, that you probably havn't got "flu."
In all honestly, it sounds like you may have "flu-like" symptoms, which in a young fit person, probably 'aint gonna make that much difference to a class II.
In fact, if you can walk through the door, tick a box through the "no" boxes, and the cheque doesn't bounce, this time tommorrow you'll be well on your way to going solo.
Sounds like, as usual, common sense of the AME has prevailed.
Couldn't agree more, at least there is an element of choice in childbirth.

The vast majority would proclaim it to be FAR worse than childbirth.

Thanks for the replies guys... woke up feeling tons better today. If this is not flu then I don't know what it is. I've battled with it on and off for a week. It's probably something to do with this kak weather...
Anyway, just about to set off... will let you know my result! Got an hour's flying booked right after as well

Hey guys,
Sorry for the late reply!
I passed! No issues whatsover, ECG clean, Eye test perfect, no colour blindness, my pee was within the limits, hearing great, blood clean, good reflexes... etc! Got my certificate issued straight away and now I feel like a proper pilot complete with my CAA ref number
The AME was really nice, helped me relax after getting a rapid heartbeat on the first of 3 attempts of getting a blood pressure reading! I was just nervous I guess. Same happened again with the ECG. The machine couldn't get a reading from the pelting rate my heart was beating at. The AME told me to think of someting relaxing like laying on the beach listening to the waves crashing... boy did it work, the 2nd reading was normal and the AME agreed with the result.
So my instructor now has a copy of my cert and joking rubbed her hands together and said, I get to send you on your own soon mwaahaha!
P.S - lovely flight conditions today... I did turning today, including climbing and decending turns.

Thanks Ginger!
I can get her nicely set on the approach, but my instructor is bit by bit getting me closer to my first landing. Doing Slow flight this Saturday... then onto stalls and spinning
