Aviation Medical Standards
Generally speaking, what are opinions regarding medical standards in commercial aviation?
Are the standards in today's day and age with the reliability of computer operated aircraft and engines as relevant as they may have been twenty plus years ago?
Do we need the expense of expensive Aviation Aeromedical Centres or is this really a case of the 'old school tie' providing 'jobs for the boys'? Could initial Class 1 medicals be carried out to an equal standard by AMEs at local centres rather than dragging individuals half way around the country or continent.
Are some national authorities looking at medical standards in a realistic manner whilst others are kicking the a*** out of it for the pure purpose of protecting their jobs and pensions or is the truth the other way around?
Which country has the right balance?
