If you fail a class 1...
I am considering making an appointment for the class 1 medical at Gatwick in the near future. The question that I have not found an answer (in LASORS or web searches) for is - should you fail the medical can you be issued a class 2 renewal on the back of the medical that has just been undertaken or would another AME be looking to lighten your wallet further??
I will need to renew the class 2 by mid April in any case.
Any advice or previous knowledge appreciated..

If you fail the class 1, but meet the requirements for the class 2 then yes they would be able to issue. Class 1 initials are substantially different to class 1 renewals, whereas class 2's are almost identical (bar things like ECG's etc) in either circumstance so it matters little whether it's a renewal or not.
A class 1 is no big deal if you're in decent health and your eyes and ears work half-decently.
