Doctors actually

I would suggest that medico or doctor is a better term of address than "quack" in these fora. I don't refer to you professional pilots as "fallback human autopilot assistants", as I realise and respect your true value, having read many threads.

Quacksalver - a boaster who applies a salve.

(Think it's Dutch or German).

Seems quite a reasonable description.

Oi, you nursey worsey at the back keep quiet.

You know you are the doctors' handmaiden.

AP, I don't think that the colloquial use of the word 'quack' matters too much. It is the context that matters.

Stick around a bit....your hide'll grow thicker!

(they can call me what they like so long as they pay their bills)

Mac

PS - Obsolete Dutch : Middle Dutch kwak = boast + Middle Dutch salve = unguent - so "ointment-boaster"

Bloody Nurses, they've all got idea's above there station.

Bring back matron I say.

I still use extracts from this thread http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthr...ighlight=nurse
when I try encourage nurses to expand their roles.

Gives them a realistic idea of the rocky ride ahead.

I suspect Aussiepax is more concerned about the term "quackery"- unscientific medical advice.

Could it simply be that the connotation associated with the word 'quack' in Australia is somewhat worse than it is in the British English? Well that's my perception anyway.

Anyway, I am sure no offence is (usually) intended by those who use the term here.

P.S. I like eating ducks.

Oh come on, Aussiepax, in here we're all pretty civil. I use the term myself at times.
Just wander on down to Jet Blast if you want to experience some real insults!

"....try encourage nurses to expand their roles...."

I find that usually ends with a slap unless I'm very lucky...

You're doing something wrong Mac, it can end up in a bit of slap and tickle if handled correctly.

(Don't they teach you doctors anything?)
