Small eye cyst - class 1 medical!
I've had a small cyst on my lower eyelid of my left eye for quite a while now. I had it checked out by my GP recently and he said the only way of removing it fully was having a small operation to get rid of it. I informed him that I would be having my Class 1 medical and his advice was that it would not affect it, because if it isn't hindering my vision and is not infected in anyway, all I should do is keep pressing on it with a damp, hot compressed towel.
He did say that it won't affect it my class 1 medical, and that a lot of people have these small cysts on their eyelids, which are not visible at all...but I'm really worried that they might make a fuss out of it. I have it on the 15th of October.

I think you've probably got a meibomian cyst. http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/23069132/
Often, they go on their own.
Wouldn't have though it would cause any AME concerns

I tried to make a new thread, but the forum wouldn't allow me for some reason, so first, apologies for digging up such an old thread.
I am planning on going for my initial Class 1 Medical shortly. However, I have a small cyst on my upper eyelid of my left eye.
The eye closes very slightly, but after a visit to my optician, I have near perfect eye sight, with visual accuity of 6/4 in both eyes seperately and together. With just 0.25 dioptres of astigmatism, and a normal field of view.
Will this cyst affect my ability to gain a class 1? I can have it removed but, would personally prefer to not go through the procedure if I didn't need to.
So, would it cause me to fail, even though I have good eyesight and field of view?

Eye cyst
Have you had the cyst long?
What did Opticians eye test reveal this to be. - Stye or chalazion?
A chalazion is a firm, pea-sized painless lump in the eyelid which develops gradually over several days or weeks. Resulting from trapped sebum from the Meibomium gland.
About one third of chalazions resolve spontaneously and the remainder will need an incision and curettage from the conjunctival side of the eyelid followed by topical antibiotics for a few days.
A stye is an infection in a lash follicle. The involved lid tends to be edematous with discomfort , a red swollen lump and localized abcess on the lid margin. Most also need an incision and curettage followed by antibiotics for a few days.
A hot compress against the eyes can normally help the stye resolve quicker.
If your fields are normal and vision is A1, in my opinion this should present no problem
have a nice day

I have had it for a period of 18 to 24 months, and has never caused irritation, pain or discomfort.
If you fail a class 1 examination, is there a minimum period of time for a retest? and do you have to pay for a full retest, or just the test that you failed?
