Class 1 Medical about to expire. Renewal ?

Hi Folks,

Just a quick question. My Class 1 Medical is about to expire. Currently I am completing my ATPL exams. If I let my medical expire past it's renewal date can I still renew it at a later stage in my training when my ATPL's are finished or do I then need to go through a full initial medical again at Gatwick.

Anyone who can shine some light on it would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Am I right in thinking that you don't have to go to the CAA for the renewal as it can be done elsewhere by other approved doctors? Also, is renewal as expensive as the initial medical?

I did a similar thing recently, they sent me off for an extended check but luckily without the nasty bits such as EEG and psycho. All in all about 70% cheaper than an initial would have been. Good luck
