when to admit my vision is getting worst??

Hiya!,

i realized i miss 0.25 on both eyes.......which means i can see very well in 99,9% of the occasions although if i think about having to read line 10 on the visual acuity test in front of the aviation doctor to renew my class 1 i think i might fail it!

what would happen if i go for my medical renewal with no glass-prescription (as i have NONE) and the doctor is not happy about my very slightly reduced visual acuity??...considering that during my renewal i will be probably type rating with an airline??.....would this possibly mean i have to wait to get told my vision is not excellent, then asked to get a prescription then buy some glasses, then have another medical renewal, then inform the CAA.......and possibly delay my type rating??.....or would this mean that the only thing i have to do is to get some glasses after i've been told i need them and just inform the CAA with no further medical examination??...
last scenario i can think of: i get a prescription before going for my renewal and show the doctor my vision is perfect...then inform the CAA......can any optician give me a prescription or must they be aviation doctors??...

thanks very much to all of u!

I had a sneeky feeling my eyes had gotten slightly worse but went to my class one renewal anyway. The AME confirmed my suspicions (couldn't quite pass the eyesight tests) and sent me away to get some glasses (everything else was fine). I came back 2 weeks later (turned out I had a mild astigmatism in each eye) and when I had passed the eye tests with my glasses on (and had shown my precription was within limits) was issued with my class one.

Hope my tale helps.

PS As it seems you can't afford to wait two weeks to get your medical if you do need glasses, go to the optometrist before the AME and see if you are within limits and all that/get some glasses. I believe the requirments for eyesight are on the (pain in the ar*e to find anything you want) CAA website. Also I think there is a bit of paper that you need your optometrist to fill out and sign to show the AME your precription.

toomuchradiations, I think that you should change your user name to toomuchworry! Relax, it's not a big deal.

Go to Boots, your local optometrist, or even spend some of your hard earned money with an opthalmologist if you think that you may have more than a simple problem.

In my own case, "Boots" type cheap glasses filled the bill quite nicely as I aged and acommodation became a problem. I continued to pass the Class 1 medicals without assistance from my glasses, with increasing difficulty each time, until the day when they were needed to pass, whereupon my licence was noted to require the carriage of spectacles for correction of near-sightedness. After playing that game for 10 or so years, on my last medical had to go the 'whole hog', and have the notation that they're now required for near and distant vision.

If you can get by without the glasses for the test, then do so, but take along the specs that optimise your vision, "just in case".

Regards,

Old Smokey

ahahahah old smokey u're definetly right!...i was supposed to become a doctor but i didn't because i feel sick everytime i even see a doctor or have to do my medical renewal!!

i'll get some spectacles...hide them in my pocket, lie to the doctor when he asks me if my vision is still good, fail the test and then uncover my glasses and say:<< shall we try with these ones on mate??>>

cheers!
