LOGANAIR exodus

A far clearer picture will emerge within the next 6 weeks when the outcome of various interviews and sim rides are known.
The other problem is Globespan starting half a dozen new routes out of ABZ from Spring 2007. TFS starts next month. Probably one aircraft based in ABZ with 2 rotations daily.
Who knows - they may well source pilots from the LOG and BMI crews who are already based there.
It's a thought !!

Even amongst the desperate for a break Scottish instructor community, this new policy has been treated with derision. I honestly can't see the sense in this at all.

Loganair has always seemed like an interesting place to work, but not under these conditions. I hope they realise the error of their ways. I wouldn't mind working for them myself but there is no way I'd ever think about paying for an out of date rating.

Is this policy the same for experienced direct entry pilots? Or is it just for low hours people?

TwoDeadDogs 9th Oct 2006 22:43

Hi there
People are willing to pay for an "out-of-date" rating; just look at all those who fronted up money to fly ancient 748s and Sheds for Emerald. They'd do it again, if Emerald re-opened.The SAAB's not a bad old bus, compared to some, by a long shot.Loganair will get bitten on the ass by this one.Stupid twats...:hmm:

Say again s l o w l y 10th Oct 2006 07:55

I'm not sure there were that many. Certainly when I joined Emerald the company paid for the rating. (Which I already had......!) On the Sheds there were only a couple of chap's who'd paid before the company went to the wall.

But Logan are charging a lot more than Emerald or Streamline had previously. If I remember correctly, with Streamline a rating was about £7K as it was done on the 330.

The trouble with the larger Saab is that a new type rating is necessary.
Loganair unlikely to buy bigger as the risk is not worth it. They don't have the crews to expand anyway. Now if you were to say about another operator with larger aircraft then that might be possible. Eastern with their Saab 2000 ?? Flybe with the 400 ?? or some tie up even.

the resignations have started
Totally untrue.

For the resignations to have started they would actually had to have stopped first!:p :}

Jinkster 29th Oct 2006 22:44

From what I have heard officially to newbies (myself) as I'm trying to get in - is that people are in the hold pool and they are not taking people on......:hmm:

Jinkster 30th Oct 2006 07:29

I didnt!!! You'd be a fool - how many other operators use Saabs?

Not as many as 737 operators I tell thee.

"I was told that its common practice to pay to work in some of those countries, shame they're bringing that idea to our turboprop operators."

Oh come on. Don't you go blame the jobmarket situation on us Scandis.
The only operator I've heard that is into the "pay for your job" in Sweden is Avitrans Nordic that currently has a hiddeous scheme where you pay 300 000 SEK and get a TR+LT, no job offer. It's the closest thing to a joke I've ever heard in this buisness. And this is a scheme that's been influenced by the continental european style of recruiting...

However, from my point of view, the UK seems to be the source of all evil in this industry with operators from every corner offering "buy a job" type of deals.

Paying for the TR is common now where ever you go and this is the case for most Scandiland-jobs also. Though, I don't consider that buying a job since it is in fact yet another step in training.

I have to say that its not common here to pay to work over here. I've been through two TRs both paid for. Of course I've signed a bond, but its nowhere near the idea of paying to work. Everywhere you look, there always seems to be somebody willing to pay for their ratings and line training, not only in scandinavia. I'd rather blame EagleJet etc and current legislation for allowing this line training nonsense.

I wouldn't believe any rumours of a hold pool at LOG of Saab rated pilots - it's bollo*ks! I understand a hold pool does exsist, but none are type rated...

Just keep applying guys, it's still the best place to start your flying career in the UK, aircraft a bit old and knackered, management are a bit of a sorry state but the best flying you'll ever get and thats what counts!

Logi will be hit hard between February and May with departing crew, they will need to act on this!

planeshipcar 1st Nov 2006 00:59

just looked at www.ppjn.com and saw that the self funded type rating was at the discretion of the airline to the employee for those with under 1000hrs. Can anyone enlighten me on this as it seems a bit odd or at the least unfair.

LOG exodus

Advertising for direct entry captains [again]. Must be expecting a mass exodus of the more experienced guys without enough FOs with ATPLs ready for command.

:ouch:

Don't think there's such a thing as experienced pilots (on type) at Yogi Bear anymore with a few exceptions. There's been a lot of promotions followed swiftly by cherio letters in the past year...

I've been away a while now but still keep an eye on the old place via a network of spies and surveillence gear.

Even the current boys and girls don't know what the deal is re. type ratings as it varies with each intake. As mentioned, it seems to depend on experience and what kind of mood the mangement are in. There have been some self funded type rated folks arrive and some on the evil scheme of recent months but all the people I know there are on one of the more 'civilised' schemes of yesteryear and know precious little about current dealings.

Seems to have changed hugely since I was there and with more to come in 2008 with the franchise not being renewed (if BA's current course is anything to go by) and the Otters most likely departing for good, flyBE will be sharpening their knives to carve the old place up perhaps...:{

Perhaps not....?

Meeting 16th

With the forth comming meeting on the 16th with the future connection with Loganair and BA will Loganair become a franchise of Flybe Connect????

Mister Geezer 13th Nov 2006 22:46

And where are all those BA Connect Dash 8-300s going to go to.... rumours rumours!!!

GBALU53 14th Nov 2006 07:23

Wider Picture

With Loganair look at replacing the Saab 340 fleet could this be the oppertunity to go for the Dash 8s of B.A.Connect??

I do not think all of the B.A.Connect crews will move over to Flybe all though they would just need a conversion onto the 400 Dash.

So looking at this in a long term i would say there would be crews off the Saab fleet going onto the Dash 300 if this comes about. :ok: :ok:

Callsign Kilo 14th Nov 2006 14:23

BA Connect Dash 8's

I can't see Loganair replacing Saab 340s with high wing aircraft - anyway, are some of those Dash 300s not older than some of their Saabs?

Plus, if the majority of the Dash 300 crew are based out of MAN?? - it would be hard to see the majority willing to uproot and move to GLA, EDI and ABZ. I would imagine that BACON's TP crew will either be holding out to see what Flybe offer or dusting off the cv's in order to move to pastures new!

Loganair

To no avail I've tried to find out how people have got into Loganair over recent years, however no one has replied.

I am going the modular route and at the end will probably be faced with forking out almost £20K for a type rating on a jet or alike and need to know what I'm going to spend.

Logan seems to offer a not so expensive route in and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I know Flight Training Europe has an agreement, but that obviously doesn't help a modular like myself. Flight Safety International apparently did an MCC which got you an interview? Does this still exist? I get the impression that not many people on pprune no or even consider Flight Safety for MCC as I've asked several times about it and no one has replied.

Do most people get called for interview or is it a very difficult airline to get into? Would I be an idiot to buy a type rating and then send them an application or do you think one would have a very good chance.

I want to have realistic goals set a side.

What do Loganair look for or who do you need to speak to to get an offer of an interview?

ecj 8th Dec 2006 06:37

Obtain your CPL/IR and then see what the market is doing.

Logibear lost 20 guys or so last year. More than 10 will go in the next few months.

Buying your Saab type rating would be a risky business as you say.
