Loganair Twin Otter

After reading the article in June's Pilot Magazine I am hooked on the twin otter.

After my JAR ATPL what is the chance of getting a job flying the twin otter out to Barra.

The flights on the Maldivian air taxi are fantastic. Most of the crews were Canadians who had flown the Twotter in Canada. I was chatting to them about the Loganair operation and they had all heard about it.

The "no shoes" ethos of the Mldives also applied to the pilots. None of them wore shoes either on the dock or while flying. If your idea of flying heaven is shorts, polo shirts and no shoes then head for the Maldives!

Did the Barra flight with my Dad last year.

Going Stanby, we had to wait to see if it was us that got on or a bag mail and Newspapers!

The view as you go out is amazing, and the landing was interesting too! If you get a chance to do it the do. Even more interesting is that the whole island seems to appear around the airport as it comes in to land, then go away again once it's parked.

Same day, also saw someone get their plane stuck in the sand as he taxied to take off

Depends how good a driver you are Jinkster.
The chap that wrote the article is a particularly good handler, and that decides your chances of getting such a job.
If you are a typical 'approved course' merchant, chances are, you won't make it. If, however, you are, and can prove you are, a gifted handler....no reason why you won't make it through.
Sorry if this sounds harsh, but it is true.
Best of luck in whatever you do.

www.loganair.co.uk for your application form.

I think they have just started a new lady FO on the Otter.

Kenn Borek Air supplies the crews and aircraft for the Maldives operation. A Canadian ATP would be required.

Cool

Fast Erect, thanks for your kind words. All I can say is that I must have had a good mentor. Know what I mean?

Jinkster, you don't have to be a great poler, but it helps. Having a good G.A. background will also stand you in good favour, especially grass strip and tailwheel flying.

With that said, our last two F.O.s on the Twotter fleet started with very few hours, one with only 200 TT. Both have proved to be superb drivers and will go far. Yes they are both female.

The problem is that Loganair's Twotter fleet only has 3 F/Os and new positions are scarce. But if you don't apply, you'll never have the chance to do it. It is fantastic fun. It's all hands on and it's unique. Hope that helps?

Cheers.
