Jobs. How & where to get them?!

Hi!
I am new to this forum & quite new to flying so I would like to ask some advice. I have 175hrs TT with the ATPL exams passed and am about to start a JAA CPL course.
I am wondering, though, where to go from here. I cannot afford an Instrument Rating right now so thought about doing a FIC and trying to gain hours instructing. I would really like to work abroad, however, so have thought about going to the US to do a FAA IR and trying to find work in Africa, Asia or just about anywhere else.
I was wondering if anyone else has taken this route & how it went. Also if anyone knows the job situation outside of Europe or can advise on where & how to get jobs abroad I would be very grateful.

Cheers

Firstly welcome ! (hope moderators don't mind me doing that bit )

My advice as you are new is to have a good search of the forums and read the threads as much of what you have asked is in there somewhere. As I am sure you know, things are very difficult at the moment whichever route you take.

Information I have gathered so far in my endless reading on here is that instructing is good for hour building if you can get the work. Some are delaying their IR but if the market takes a sudden upturn (yeah right!) they won't be in a position to apply for any jobs without it. Alternatively if you do the IR you have to stay current just in case.

Comments on working abroad usually centre around being able to speak the language. If you don't it can difficult to get yourself noticed.

You have to do what feels right for you.

Pilot69,
Have a good search in these forums but also wander over to the regional forums too. Eg Africa and so on regarding work.
It has been done before, it just takes a bit of motivation and a lot of "get up and go".
Low houred pilots usually get starts doing scenics and the like. If you are thinking of Africa, wander down to your local tourist office and see if they have brochures on scenic flights over the Victoria Falls etc. Use your imagination and you might be surprised at what you'll find.

I got my start doing bush flying. Loved it.
