Yep two or three weeks ago, a colleague of mine, with a large-ish scheduled pax turboprop operator, had about 2000 instructing hours though

I've just gone the other way. After 2 years of airline work, I've just lost my job. It seems that the moral high ground is in fact the end of the dole queue! (All part of the buzz takeover, if you're asking why).

I know of several. However, I wonder about the informational value of PPRuNE sometimes as all the people I know who have moved on and all the other grapevine bound happenings that seem to be ongoing do not seem to appear on these hallowed pages. If I just read PPRuNE, I would give up. Luckily reality seems to be somehwat different and keeps me encouraged

Yep!

After starting down the path of no return in 1999, I have finally secured a job flying regional jets. There is work out there at present, the fact is that no-one's sharing information. I know of another 2 or 3 operators employing at present, war or no war, but I'm not at liberty to say who they are. Suffice to say, there is hope if you have 1500 hours plus.

Good luck to those of you still bashing out CVs.

Loose lips.....

When jobs are short a buttoned lip can increase your odds of gaining employment. Or sometimes vacancies are shared within certain 'networks' only. Just something you deal with.

G-LOST Howzit mate? Flew over LBA yesterday, a cracking day and cracked a smile while overlooking. Have you managed to stop smiling yet??

Yup! I finished my training last June with a Fzn ATPL and minimal hours - am now doing a type rating for the Dash 8. There are jobs out there. Just don't expect one to land in your lap! Cut down lots of trees and send out lots of CVs. That's the only way...

Me too!

Finished my ATPL training in July 2002 and starting my Airbus type rating in May! Currently have 370 hours. Also know of 4 others from my training school booked in on Airbus Type Ratings over the next few months.

I have to agree with er82 - there are flying jobs out there, but you've got to get your head above everyone elses.

As well as getting CV's out, also get networking with people in the industry - if they know your name and face you have a much better chance of securing that all-important interview when they start recruiting.

Remember, the harder you work, the luckier you get!

Is the Airbus Rating at your expense or at the expense of an employer? Are there further positions available?

Thanks and good luck.

er82... well done!!! you seem to have done great since leaving OATS.

How did you come to get an interview/job offer with low hours??

Which operator are you with?

Best of luck with the D8 rating.

As suprising as it may be with the current climate, my airline is paying for my airbus type rating! (I am of course bonded for 3 years).

Unfortunately, I believe that they have completed their recruitment of low hour pilots for 2003.

Best of luck

Well Done yourself! You too have done pretty well since leaving OATS.

I'm now with the same operator as you, silly!

And congrats on completing your Dash 8 rating! You must be pleased.....

"how did you come to get an interview/job offer with low hours?"

probably the same way you did...... were you implying anything?!

Cool

Just to keep up the morale and stop the doom and gloom merchants ranting, I too have just accepted a FO position on Dash 8s.
My background? 300 hours, modular trained, FATPL, twin IR and right place, right time. It can be done even in the present climate.
I knocked on doors, chased up letters with phone calls and after 10 weeks of completing training, have a job.....just got to make sure I dont stuff up the type rating now!
Best of British to all those still hunting....dont give up.
