Hi everyone i have done and passed the advanced compass test and it goes something like this!

6 sections

CCT- Complex co-ordination task, test of hand/eye/foot co-ordination and scan rate measures input accuracy over3 identical runs of 2 mins each.
ATPL-30 questions set by line training captains same as the exam type questions
Mathematics-15 minute cockpit maths test of type made in flight speed/time/distance/ratios/quantity and interpolation of tables and graphs,no calculator allowed probably the hardest of all
Memory-6 minute test of memory and ability to chunk information
Orientation-10 minute test of instrument interperation/speed of comprehension and spacial awareness
Task Manager- three 2 minute test runs as a test of ability to scan the screen and manage and prioritise demands from an input task and monitoring task at the same time

hope this give u an insight into what is required,
bit of advice dont get hung up on one question or task especially on the time limited exercises as you are marked /scored accordingly so make sure u answer all the questions guess if you have to.Dont worry if this looks daunting if you stay calm and answer as best as you can you should be ok.

best of luck everyone,if i can get through it anyone can!

1. Complex co-ordination task. Azimuth/elevation control using a joystick with rudder input and speed setting performed simultaneously.

2. ATPL level test. The 30 questions, 20 mins.

3. 15 minute timed math test, aimed at practical calculations covering speed, time, distance, ratios, quantity and interpretation of tables and graphs. My advice would be to limit yourself for each questions ie. don't spend too much time on a question if you can't get the answer. The next one could be easier.

4. 6 minute test of short term memory. Be sure you know your keyboard number keypad as well as where the letters are on the keyboard.

5. a 10 minute timed test of instrument interpretation, speed of comprehension and spatial orientation.

6. a test that has you change inputs and cancel out warnings that appear on the screen.

After this you will then need to do the Psychological test which takes approximately an hour. Tedious questions...

Hope that is of some help

Advanced Compass Test

After searching the interview and sponsorship archives, and visiting the EPST website, I can see that the advanced compass test has a section of ATPL type questions.

However, there are two things that I have not been able to find out. Are the questions multiple choice, and can anyone tell me what subject areas the questions are drawn from?

Thanks for any help on this.

Re: Books in preparation for COMPASS Tests...

COMPASS (Computerised Pilot Aptitude Screening System) is designed to test natural ability of co-ordination, memory, multiple tasking, orientation etc., basically you either have it or you don't, not really something that you can learn (unless anyone knows of anything that might help??) Also, it would not hurt to brush up on your Maths (especially mental arithmetic) and Physics.

Advanced Compass Tests

Hi,

I'm about to sit the advanced compass tests and wonder if anyone who's sat them already could shed some light for me.

I know the basics but I'm looking for more detailed information. PM's or posts would be gratefully received.

Thanks!

look at the BA DEP thread. There is a comprehensive explanation on there, that is if you are talking about the computer based aptitude tests.

Thanks for the pointer but I've checked and they don't match what the Compass tests should be, for instance there should be a memory test and a technical paper.

They're probably very similar in terms of what they are testing but it's speficially the advanced compass I'm interested in.

If anyone else has any information or advice, posts or pm's would be gratefully received

Thanks

It is a pilot aptitude test, including hand/eye co-ordination, motor skills and spatial awareness also they check your academic mathematical and technical capacity etc.

Unlike the Pilapt tests, there is no software to help prepare for COMPASS besides the IPAS tests at EPST (who developed COMPASS) and even that is not that close to the real thing.

IPASS

I did the IPAS test last night.

It was good fun, but it only ranks your performance as 'excellent', 'good', 'satisfactory' etc. and gives no indication what each of those categories means in terms of being a pilot.

Having sat the BA Micropat tests some years ago, I can comment that the IPAS test was not as demanding, but is useful to give the would-be pilot a chance to see what sort of things the tests may involve and practice at reading the instructions carefully and working to time limits etc.

I would also recommend the pilot aptitude test on cockpitweb: a bit closer to reality in terms of real tests and a worthwhile opportunity to brush up your skills. Some of the cockpitweb tests would seem to have a direct link with the CTC tests, and one or two of the cockpitweb Pilot Aptitude tests were certainly in Micropat (suitcase man and frames for sure).

It does cost £50 (roughly), but if it improves your performance/confidence just enough to get you into your chosen flight school, £50 is not really all that much to pay.

GAPAN

Hi Everybody,

Just to explain my situation: about a month ago I have applied for a PPL sponsorship through Gapan and luckily I have been selected to come for the interview. In the letter, they indicated that there will be some computer-based assessment, a short multiple choice mental dexterity quiz and an interview (group of 4 people knowing that 16 candidates have been pre-selected) Does anyone have been to such tests and interview? any information on how it works?

Thank you...
