Avion Express

Good morning folks,
I receeived an invitation for Avion Express interview.
I was curios to understand from who is already in, or who has already attended the assessment, about the job conditions.
What is really concerining me are the "winter operations", they seem to fly too little for my tastes, and the salary is very low, maybe I could barely live in those bases.
On the other hand they provide free accomodation, which is not bad, and the possibility to commute from your home country.
If I can stay home when not flying, and just going when on duty, with tickets provided and accomodation for free, it could be interesting even if the activity is low, considering that in summer the sitiation is different, and also the salary.
Does anyone have experience or informations ?
Thank you !

In summer most people fly 75-95 hours. Winter - no one knows. The issue with this basic salary is that they can put you in STBY for the whole duration and you can't really say "no", cause they are paying you a salary, right?
About tickets/hotel: 4* decent hotels. All of them with breakfast. But you have to pay for dinner, etc. Almost all of them are airport hotels - good when you fly a lot, but there are no food options nearby. McD at the airport, or you have to take a train/taxi to a nearby village.

Long story short (and this is in my opinion). Avion is a great company if you want the experience of living in different countries. 3 weeks in Stuttgart, 3 in Hamburg, 3 in Antalya, a month in St. Domingo. Not many companies can offer you that. Even Emirates/L-Hansa/BA - few nights layover and that's it.
Seing your friends/family for 7 days a month is not great, but not all of us have families. Money? Maybe next summer they'll increase the salary. This summer they were paying pre-tax what RYR/WZZ are paying after tax (aka - half of what you would get at wzz/ryr).
Atmosphere in cockpit/cabin in general pretty good.

Thank you very much for your feedback, it covered all my questions.
I'm thinking to decline the offer, because although staying and travelling in lots of countries is a nice experience, which i like, on the other hand you are not really estabilished anywhere, just hotels and commuting.
And the salary is too low, like you said, especially in winter.
If, as you said, they put me on standby I can barely cover the food with that money.

If anyone else has other experiences to add, it's very appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Hogos,
Thank you for your query. I'm currently waiting for their interview. For newbies doesn't look so bad. Do you know if they accept cadets? Im looking for information about the assessments and how to prepare the possible interview but I can't find so much information about it. Any help will be highly appreciated.

i am sorry to say - accepting these TnCs is the nail to the coffin in this Industrie.
work in a supermarket and u get payed better - sorry. I understand the passion to the job and the desperation to get in - but sorry - accepting these kind is not making the industry better.
For the younger ones, if you want a better job in future decline these offers until they set in proper TnCs

A significant step would be permitting a truly intra EU union rather than unions in each member state and the ECA. Why have cabotage rights and an incredibly mobile workforce without a union that is likewise across the whole bloc?

The EU taking social dumping and “self employed contractor” contracts seriously and doing something about them rather than allowing the current situation would also be a damn good start. The scenario we are in where a pilot can be employed in one nation on a contract that would be totally illegal in another, but because they are nominally “based” in, say, Latvia, on a “service provider” contract to an agency in the Middle East and spend 20 days rattling around ACMI in Italy, Germany etc and then go home. It creates an incredibly distorted market and is unfair to everyone in the long term. The end of Ryanair’s contractor model was a start but that is all it was, a start. I cast no aspersions on those who take these contracts, they have families to look after; the argument “they know what they are signing” cuts as much ice as a soap hacksaw.

Personally I feel that until the above are achieved cabotage rights for EASA/EEA members essentially create a scenario that simply enables a race to the bottom. A pilot is more more expensive to employ in France, for example, for a host of reasons, but that is not a reason for them to be undercut by an ACMI operator in another Member State.

Worth a read.

I'm also looking for material for the interview. It seems that the Psychometric and cognitive tests are around 3-4 hrs long and it IS a big issue if you don't achieve a certain level. Puzzles, IQ tests, math drills are required to pass, but a specific method for their test is still unknown.

If it's the same for TR'ed candidates, it's basically Cut-E test for the psychometric part. As per the A320 technical questions or ATPL questions, maybe someone here could give his or her latest feedback?

Smartcockpit.com is for 320 questions. Those are for type rated, aren't they?

I believe so, type rated myself, but still waiting to receive the invitation and using this time to practice everything.
Currently using pilotassessments.com as it covers as well A320, ATPL and the AON psychometrics.

Heard from some buddies that they signed an agreement with airBaltic to fly wetlease with four A320's out of Riga during this summer, so I'm expecting quite some opportunities for us here.

Have you been invited already?

Same question here. I'm considering getting my TR with BAA Training with the secured position at Avion at the end. Any feedback regarding BAA Type Rating for Avion Express and assessments (both online and sim) would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks guys and fly safe!
