Professional Licence Issues

FlightDeckFriend reports that "in 2009-2010, 2611 professional flying licences were issued in the UK alone". I thought the average figure for new licence issues from the CAA was roughly ~1000/yr. It puts in stark contrast that even in the good times (ie now), recruitment for low hour cadets is probably ~500/yr, most coming from the integrated sausage factories. According to Flight Deck Friend figures, a 1 in 5 chance IF you're lucky, IF you've stumped up the eye watering integrated costs and IF times are/remain good! Has anyone researched these figures more closely and have any up to date knowledge?
