Interview dress code

Quite a simple one here...

I've a big interview next week. Wondering do I wear the very smart, tailored 3 piece suit or drop the waist coat and just go standard with the jacket and trousers?

Business meeting, business suit. The style might vary with age, and current fashion, but bearing in mind you will probably dealing with old farts like me, conseravative may be more appropriate than cutting edge.

I'd avoid the 3 piece suits and all fashion. Don't turn up in a grey/silver suit. Black or navy, simple white shirt and a tie without ducks on it!

I wore a tweed suit to the interview for my current employer! Seemed to work well amongst a sea of ill fitted navy suits!

Ah, maybe this is my problem. The last time I went to an interview I wore a kilt, sporan, purple shirt and an oversized yellow bow tie.

Seriously though, you can't really go wrong with a normal business suit or a three-piece suit, as long as you are wearing a suit of some kind and it's smart. They aren't going to be prejudiced to one suit over another in reality. So the only disadvantage you can really give yourself as far as fashion is concerned is if you look like a sack of spuds.

To be fair, he's not asking how to dress himself. He clearly knows that he shouldn't turn up wearing a t-shirt and underpants.

Edit: well okay, he is - but it's not quite as bad as you guys are making out. He's only trying to clarify which of his suits others think will be looked upon witht he most favour. Quite a sensible question actually?

I'm sorry but I just find this staggering.

Providing you turn up smartly dressed in a suit, clean shaven and nice shiny shoes then the rest will be down to your own competence. Just like ANY other job interview. Do you really think the folks behind the table will be quietly wondering how you had the nerve to show up with only a two piece suit instead of a three? The mind boggles.

Then again, maybe it's just me being grumpy after a max duty last night.

Don't get too grumpy, Baroness Ashton and her champagne swilling chums on the continent have just concluded that you can do far more and enjoy it.

Top Tip, don't go in your birthday suit.

Look smart, clean your shoes but, more importantly, answer the questions!

It's not such a silly question.. one would think that looking smart would be sufficient but I made that mistake with Citation Shares some years ago..
After a 30 min phone interview on a range of stuff, and no mention of a dress code..I turned up at the interview wearing a very smart.. very expensive dark blue blazer.. dark grey flannels.. a very expensive Jermyn St shirt and a sober tie and smart well polished shoes..
What could possibly be open to criticism in that for a pilot interview ?.. Not applying for the CEO position of RTZ..
Half way through filling out a stack of paperwork the HR chap reappeared (looking horribly embarrassed) with his female boss to tell me that I couldn't be interviewed as I wasn't wearing a dark grey suit.. their very words.
No 'Come back next week' that was it.
Mind you.. Citation Shares was a bit peculiar .. their pilots had to wear grey suits.. normal white shirts.. not uniform.. and yellow ties..to see them at the FBO caused one to move away in case they came over to talk about religion.

Its not a stupid question the guy is asking for help. I had two interviews/meetings recently and one was in an office setting the other was an informal lunch meeting with a Chief Pilot of a very well established corporate company.

The things that I looked at were, you can never be overdressed for a business meeting, better to be overdressed then under.

If it is an interview/business meeting(for a job) Black suit, light grey pinstrip is ok but nothing to crazy blue/bright greys. a white shirt it portrays a professional your here for business type appearance more so then a colorful purple,pink,green,dark blue shirt.

Tie simple yet portray confidence, mid level blues etc does the trick.

As for the lunch meeting same difference but if you go without a tie which I did as it was a lunch meeting/interview you can go without the tie but wear a light blue type business shirt so when the jacket is off you still have a bit of character to it.

Worked a charm for me. and the Chief pilot wore the same (minus tie also)

ps to those out there saying he is an idiot or you should know we were/are all in the same boat at some stage in our career so pull your head in and help each other out.
