Grunty is not joking unfortunately...
My case, 18000TT, 17000 Jet time, 3500 Jet PIC, all on 757/767, MD80, presently flying RHS on A320, and wanting to move back to LHS...
No way for a long time now, the 500 PIC time on type checkbox ticked is somehow mandatory... I didn't find any exception...
Happy landings all

My friend has the same problem, She has 3500hrs, 1900, C208, A320 ratings with 1600hrs instruction and she has done 4 years of contract work in west Africa. Everyone wants 500 hrs on the A320 before they interview you.
As for myself, i get the same story. I have over 15000hrs on B738, B744, A330, A340 but only have 75hrs command on the A320 with instructors ratings on A320/330/340 but still they need 500hrs P1 before i can get an interview.
You can't win

Even if you got a job with an airline, having paid some 14K for a generic P2F TR on A320 series, any UK/European airline will still as part of their SOP's require you to re-TR, base and line train on their fleet and according to their protocols. So what's the point in shelling out your own money, (or even worse getting into debt) for it in the first place? Quite honestly a waste of money, and quite useless. And what happens when it expires and you haven't got a job?
