Wink Interview and study material

Hopefully in around 9-12 months I will be attending a few interviews and assesment days at various training providers with the aim of getting onto an intergrated ATPL course.

But what kind of study material books/CDs etc... would be good preparation for the testing stages of the assesment day? I.E Maths, Physics, aviation subjects? I understand theres no way of really preparing for the 'hand-eye' tests, anyone know of any other good material?

Just revise math and physics. Give a look at OAA's books. I am not saying to buy it (in the case you don't want to), but just to look at the contents. What you just need is an internet connection to find the topics explained on the web (you will find something for sure). Old school books will be fine too.
OAA and other integrated schools their assessment use pilapt software and the method of compass test. I'd suggest you to use the Search button for this.

Try this website I found here on PPRuNe:

APST IPAS

It has some "hand-eye" tests plus some math and some memory tests as well.
It requires a registration but as far as I remember you don't need to put your real info

I hope this helps!

Cool

Thanks guys,

Found a few people on ebay selling the oxford aviation maths and physics CDs, might give them a go as its been 10 years since my GCSEs!

I should also mention that I did the MOD flying test at Cranwell around 8 years ago (was going to join the FAA), I passed pilot (well), observer (just) and failed ATC. During my de-brief I was told the FAA required passes in all but looking at my score i would be a good civil candidate?

I wonder how close the CTC for example test is compared to the FAA one i took all those years ago?

Joe - OAA have their own forum ask.oxfordaviation.net
There is a section devoted to the Skills Assessment with lots of useful advice. I'm sure it won't be massively different at other places, plus there are bound to be similar online resources for other schools.

Fwiw, I was really impressed with Oxford, although I have decided to go it my own way as a modular student. If I had decided to go Integrated, they would have featured highly on my list.

Plus, as others have said, search on here.

I have completed both the OAA Compass test and the CTC PILAPT test. Personally I found the OAA test slightly easier. There is plenty of material out there to practice the tests at home if you are willing to part with a small fortune.

Maths and Physics is basic GCSE level, 15 questions in 15 minutes. At CTC the maths questions are MCQ and on some questions it is easy to quickly correct a sensible answer.

I practiced using the BBC Bitesize online tests. Examples of questions are long multiplication / division, calculations involving exchange rates and rate of descents.

Is there much to the CTC assessment besides multiplication, division, subtraction, and addition? I have completed the PTC assessment maths tests, do you know how it compares?

Thanks for the information, Yeah the GCSE Bite size revision is good (used it 8 years ago for my GCSE's!).

Whilst trolling the net i came across two companies offering COMPASS and likewise software for practice (cockpitweb and latestpilotjobs)... Anyone know these companies? recommend there software as good practice?

Thanks Joe
