Overseas jobs for Aussie pilots
G'day everybody!
To put things in a nutshell, I've just completed a 10,000km job-searching drive around most of Australia, and have come back with absolutely no result, minus 150 resumes.
I'm always on the lookout on AFAP, seek.com.au, etc for pilot jobs, but most of the time employers on there want 500+ hours, versus the 260 I have gained.
I have a CPL, MECIR, NVFR and have completed 4 of my ATPL subjects.
My question is...various people have told me that I should look overseas for a job. Is this reasonable advice?
I have no idea as of yet how to search for reliable employers overseas, so if there is someone on here who could suggest a way, it would be ever so greatly appreciated.
It's just frustrating having gotten this far, and not being able to start the career I've spent years aiming towards

Same as looking in Oz. Spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to front up, knock on doors and hang around in an African or Asian country.
No-one will hire you for an overseas job unless you're already there.
For a first job, you can hope for but not really expect a "reliable" company to work for. If you have low hours, chances are they're gona take advantage of you for a while, whether its in N.T , Indonesia, Tanzania or wherever...
There definitely are jobs around though.

Hi,
I hold a CPL licence with MEP/IR (ICAO), 250hours total, 105 hours IR and i was thinking to go to Aussie to look for a job but like I see here it's very hard to find a job in Aussie as a pilot, am I wrong? Do you have any advice that can help me?

BTB - hang in there mate, it can be a hard industry to break in to, but your break will come if you stick to your guns.
Curious as to how you went about applying for jobs here? There are many guys and girls that will walk in to an office, ask for the CP and then hand them a resume, or hand it to the receptionist and hope it doesn't make the circular filing cabinet.
I found that the above rarely works, unless a pilot just happened to walk out or handed in their resignation.
How often did you ask for feedback from a CP you spoke to who said "thanks but no thanks"?
This industry is all about networking and having the right attitude. Also, given that you are 25 I hope that you have some other skills outside of aviation, those skills are often the thing that may set you out from the crowd.
Not having done the overseas thing I can't really comment, but know a few guys who did the OS thing and found it pretty much like here.
Stick by your guns mate, if you want it enough and are patient enough you'll get the break you need.
NJ - unless you have the right to live and work in Australia you won't be able to work over here, sorry.

Hi WBB,
I'm taking care of my visa but I'd like to know the opinion from pilots that are looking for a job in Australia. Like BTB said, he showed that is not so easy to find a job as a pilot in Australia and maybe Australia doesn't need pilots. Australia is open to receive foreign pilots or there are many aussie pilots that can't find a job? Every pilot that end the CPL course have a job or there are many pilots that still can't find a job?

Same old story
I have an ATPL with 3500 hours time, some on C550/C500 and B200..plus numerous twin engine AC
I left the industry over 23 years ago because of the frustrations, that you are finding... And to be honest if you are 25 now with only those hours, you may have missed the boat.....
Try getting into fire spotting flying PA28 here in WA...lots of hours little pay.They were advertising here not long ago.
As someone has said, its a matter of getting to know people in the industry and they recommend you for a position.....
