Flight Instructor Jobs?
Hi everyone,
I'm based in the UK and have CPL, and fingers crossed the ME/IR in the next few weeks. Pretty strapped for cash and wondering if there are many flying schools about who would help finance a flight instructor course in return for me working for 'X' amount of time with them?

Cabair offer a sponsored FIC, and I think PTC in Ireland do something similar.

But you will be bonded for 18mths at least, and a bond of around 10k for Cabair plus 2k for standardisation training...12 total, quite expensive when you can get FIC for under 6k.
Might be worth getting friendly with your local schools and putting the option to them, you never know

Hi all,
IMHO opinion, depending on personal finnancial situation, an overpriced bond may be a better option than self-sponsoring.
If we do the math, getting a self-sponsored FI rating for 6k GBP and finance it on 18 month, you'll be paying around 400/month. And even though salaries are getting better, it's a lot of cash /month.
On a sponsored FI program you don't pay anything, and in 18/24 months you forget about the story. Even on some of the programs, if you leave early, you pay just a fraction of the bond, not 100% of the value.
If you are lucky to get a better job, great because it's worth paying the bond, and if you finish the contract... lucky too, as you got your FI rating "for free".
By the way... I'm speaking generally. I don't know how it is like for each different school.
Just my 2 cents.

Cabair is the only school I know of who do this officially.
Others MAY do when approached particularly IF you were going to do the FI course with them and perhaps were either local or well known to them from your PPL days of something.

well... I guess not many schools do this. Not in the UK, but I know that Sabena Flight Academy sometimes hire non-rated pilots and train them to get the FI rating under a training bond.
I don't what's like working at Cabair, but maybe it's a good option for someone wanting to get the FI rating.

The cabair option seems pretty good, its just the 2 years i think may be too long. But the carrot is on the stick and im very tempted.... as for paying the bond to break contract, after the ATPL this isn't muc of an option as like most people i'm maxed out financially.
I think perhaps approaching smaller schools is a good idea too, I know there are jobs out there so guess some calls and letters required.
