Question Flying schools in the north east

Hi all

Can anyone recommend any decent places to do IR in Lincolnshire or nearby, I have seen Multiflight in Leeds, they look good, but am looking for any others.

Thanks

Try Humberside

I'm looking for a northern school too for CPL/IR as I can't afford to live down south. Have heard about one at Humberside called Triple A.

Does anyone have any experience of this school?? I've heard through the grapevive that they supply Eastern Airways with FO's, could be a little gem?

Expensive

costs triple

Hi Rich,
Thanks for the tip. How can it be possible to need 40hrs to convert an FAA licence?

Any idea of the prices they charge up there for the CPL/IR? I thought costs were lower at a small regional school if anything??

Costs

Dont know mate.. not sure how many hrs are needed to convert, i doubt if its 40 though? The one everyone tells me that is good is Multiflight at Leeds and there is another at Teeside, not sure of the name, you could always try Halfpeenny green at wolverhampton, if you dont want to go to far north, where you looking at moving to?

Leeds Flying School

Leeds flying school do IRs. They are quite a small outfit but have friendly instructors and staff and are from what I hear a bit more accommodating than Multi-flight. They have recently been overtaken by Cloud 9 aviation and are under going a re branding so unfortunately there is no website at the moment.

Post First Class Training

Triple A has a reputation for delivering 1st Class Training and I can assure you by experience that it’s true. They are a friendly and professional outfit.
The best thing you can do it's to pay them a visit, talk to some of their students (past and present) and judge for yourself. In the meantime, check their website http://www.tripleaflying.co.uk/INDEX.HTM where you would find prices and some info regarding what you commented before about Eastern Airways

Seconded

I'll second that.

Views are developed on experience and mine is that this company or moreover the owner has a tendancy to butter his bread rather generously. This WILL be at your your expence. You buy the butter!

Nothing or nearly nothing will ever stop some people using the tools infront of them to fulfill their desire to make a buck. This itself is not the problem, it is when these people mislead the ones who are trying to improve themselves and progress in this small world of aviation.

Do your research

Multiflight i can say from experience are excellent. - And i have been to to OAT etc.

Other than that, there is a company called Northern Aviation and Cleveland flying school based at Durham Tees Valley Airport. Again first rate. - Brand new seminole, FNPT11, and DTVA is a fantastically equipped airport.

My t'pence worth...thirded!!

Dick Turpin
My personal recommendation would be to avoid AAA. PM me for details and i'll fill you in on the experience that a fairly large group of us had a number of years ago.
We all decided to speak up hence some harsh posting on PPruNe so do a search, lots of info here!
And the timescale "of a number of years ago" would make no difference - supplying his butter is what it's all about!
Cheers,
Richard

Did my initial IR at Leeds Flying School and have no complaints, although that was pre take over, so no comment on the new regime. Renewed a year ago at Multi flight with no complaints whatsoever. Renewing again with them tomorrow morning. Was told by Northern Aviation they were temporarily without an examiner, although I have flown their new seminole and it is excellent.

Triple A

Im currently scouting for a school to complete my JAA CPL and IR course at and I have aaa down as a possible but there seems to be a real mixed bag of feedback about the school. i note that there are both for and against posts in this thread alone

I have had a number of training schools recomended to my by various people but I am exploring every option before I invest my very hard earned cash

I am planning to visit a number of schools shortly but would be interested in further reports from aaa either good or bad

The usual criteria of completing training as near to quoted price as possible, and of an organised operation are of importance to me (my financial situation means I need complete training in an economical manner and in an economical timeframe to allow me to return to employment to ease the pressure exerted by my lovely bank manager)

I replied your PM. Just a brief insight, if you want to ask specific questions feel free!

Keep this sentance at the front of your head when visiting AAA, it is very poignant with this establishment!!!

Cheers,
Richard

Mickeyp - No need to risk it all

Mickey, I understand your dilema. When I was choosing, the big schools couldn't offer personal training, the small ones threw in possible lack of availability of a/c and even financial instability.

Everone is different, student and schools. My reccomendation is to look at schools with a long, good history of CPL/IR training not necessarily those with shiny new planes. I had a choice of two being PAT and Bonus. I would reccommend both fully as they are both excellent at doing their best for the student. You should steer clear of any with bad press as there is no smoke without fire.

Go, no go? Any doubt - No doubt!!

PM if you want any specifics.

Cheers.

what about cfs at durham tees

have you thought about cleveland flying school at teesside airport, i think there the best value in the north and teeside airport has next to no scheduled traffic so plenty of time in the air and not on the ground waiting to take off..they have a brand new seminole and a fnpt2 sim with really good visuals ,(iv had ago)... I did my ppl with them and they were good and no real complaints, i intend to do my cpl with them

What do you need visuals for if you are doing an IR, I thought that was the point?

so you have never been in a sim then? the simulator can be a bit unrealistic and certainly at the levell of training for the IR it can also be stressful. your right though there really is no need for visuals unless you want to take off and land ,fly a circle to land or fly down to cat II/III and if you arnt going to do any of that any old sim will do. The same came be said for having realistic sounds and again you dont need them but it all adds to the experience and makes it as realistic as possible. hope that clears that up ,

I have recently been shown round Cleveland Flying school facilities. They appeared very good. They appeared to have well equipped new aircraft a piper seminole i believe, and a new head of training who has a lot of experience in both CPL and IR training. The thing that really appealed was a quiet but international airport which when sitting at the hold spending money really appealed.... this appears like its going to be an expensive venture. From what i saw i would give them call.
