Hello mates
Im new in this forum, and not sure if this is the right section to ask my question, but I will try. Im a 27 year old black man, living in scandinavia. Im thinking about becoming a pilot. Therefore I am thinking about the job market.
Do any of you know, seen or heared about black pilots working for european, american or any of the companies in the gulf?
I will be very thankfull for any answer.

Black, white, sky-blue pink with green spots or whatever, you've absolutely no reason to fear any discrimination these days in European airlines.
There is a new requirement to be able to demonstrate adequate spoken English (due to ICAO concern about radio transmission intelligibility), but that's the only issue someone, for whom English is not their first language, may have to ponder.

I would like to thank all of you that replyed. I was just a little worried that it could be much harder to get a pilot job here, when I have another skin color. But after your replies I am much more positiv. Im very thankful for your positiv answers. I had to ask, before I invest years and money in this education.

In this day and age it would actually be an advantage. Airlines actively seek to recruit "minorities" through positive discrimination. In the States, for example, United Airlines' percentage of Black and Women pilots is way way higher than the percentage of all Licence holders that are Black or Women.

Well, I am black from Africa. I have worked in the UK, Africa and the USA with all known colors in the world. I have never experienced negative resopnse (that affects my career) from any one. Be yourself, have confidence, and think positive. If I were looking at my face to find excuses for my failures. I would not be where I am now. Captain B767.
Ironically, being black may help you getting a job. Some Airlines love to have pilots from different colors.

Just be aware that becoming a pilot can be a very lengthy and very expensive business. There aren't many cadet schemes any more, and for those that do exist there will be fierce competition for the places. At the age of 27 you are starting relatively late (but lots of folk have done that) so prepare yourself for a long slog.

There is plenty of information about becoming a pilot in the other Wannabes forum. There is no need for any of that information to be duplicated in this thread.
Professional aviators are intelligent, flexible and tolerant people. The nature of the job requires people who think carefully before making a judgement, and who arm themselves beforehand with the knowledge to make that judgement a sensible one. While there are exceptions, as there are in any field, the vast majority of pilots, particularly in UK (a very cosmopolitan society), are welcoming to any and all newcomers, irrespective of race, creed, sex or skin colour. I am quite sure that your own experience will reflect that fact.

Thanks all of you. Very nice to meet aberkya an african pilot who is now a captain on B767, and have worked in EU, Africa and USA. Thanks Scroggs for telling me everyone is welcome and that it is all up to me.

I used to work in France at EAGLE AVIATION, all the pilots are black ( they are from the former company AIR AFRIQUE) from the chief pilot,via the fleet manager,ground staff,etc...
You have to speak French but U can try!

....

Let's make it absolutely plain, so there is no doubt ... the colour of your skin has nothing - nothing - to do with your chances of getting a job in my country (UK) It is as irrelevant as your hair or eye colour - or your gender.
Just to reinforce this: 5 guys in for interview recently; two black, 3 white. 3 guys got the job including the two black guys. It had nothing to do with their skin colour whatever - we took the people who presented well and were the best qualified.
I'm doing one of these chaps' final line check next week.

Have you looked at getting an FAA CPL (that takes about 4 to 7 months) and a lot cheaper. You could then get a job (maybe in Africa) and build your time quickly while doing your JAA exams. I have friends that have done this and they are flying low cost airlines in the UK now. (B737 and A320). At your age you need to start building your time as soon as possible. Where are you from originally?

Skin color doesn't matter, But I have to ask, why spend $50,00 plus for a job that pay poorly? Use the same education funds to get a mba or such. Being a pilot now days is not a good job choice for a young person.

My plan was to become airline pilot when I was in high school, but plans changed. I think it is more important to do something you like for living, than go after the money.

The reason I asked is because I have not seen many non white pilots working for airliners in these countries. But the responses from the forum members says I am wrong, and if I become a pilot one day, color is not a problem.

Best of luck to you. I work for a German airline in Italy and we have crews from all nationalities and races.
It is a great environment and there is absolutely no prejudice whatsoever.
So have no worries.....just get yourself trained and have a great career!!!
