I heard rejional were getting tired of type rated people moving on after a short time, so decided to introduce a contribution scheme to non type rated guys.
I thought that it was quite a reasonable scheme, and after applying to bmi for 3 years, was quite disappointed to hear that a batch of 180 integrated guys were taken onto the scheme.
I don't blame the guys for taking up the scheme, as I would especially in that position, but somehow, as already stated above, I dont think this intake and the future planned intakes will solve the loyalty problem.

You're all right. I personally think the idea is flawed. After 3 years on the ERJ and with a (hopefully) expanding job market, these individuals will have 2500 hours with 2300 on jets. Will they stay to get a command on the ERJ or will they jump ship for a place on the seniority with an airline that flies something bigger? MMmmm
Unfortunately, the company is in a catch 22 situation as most of the present flight crew, no matter what their rank or experience level, are thinking along the same lines. Seniority counts, and unless you want to fly the ERJ forever, there is little point in remaining 'loyal' to a company that allows progression at only a snails pace to bmi mainline or Baby.

All true as GL says, but the chance getting into a good airline, being stable and having the option to move on to mainline was what appealed to me. That dosen't mean I'd sit fat & happy, not putting much effort into the job etc in fact far from it.
I have many many friends who work for bmi reg & main. They are happy with the job and thats appealing to me ( & i have no rosey glasses on )
Maybe bmi would get the loyalty and right person if they looked at the person as an individual, rather than a product?

Ok, I'll try again.
I fit the career not just a job category. Where can I find out about the min requirements?
No point in me wasting people's time at BMI Reg. if I'm way off the mark!

From PPJN
Integrated course. Otherwise, 1500hours, MCC, significant multi time, etc.
It used to be 150 multi time, but guys with experience i.e. Eastern, Citi Express etc were refusing to join the contributory scheme so it was changed

I just received an email from Captain John Bell. They aren't taking on any high/experienced pilots at the moment as they have many FO's ready for command. They are only recruiting low houred pilots for their TRSS.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I originally applied to bmi at 700 hours, they required 1000. At 1000, i needed 1500 and now nearly 3000, too many.
But! I'm not giving rejional a slating. They are a very good, stable company to work for. The staff travel is excellent ( & experinenced ), crewin are not too bad and my other half works with a good bunch of guys who we do go out with for a drink.
The way i see it, not every one wants to fast track to the big stuff. Quality of life is often worth more than monetary value and no life, and to get in with a good company like bmi with a chance of moving onto mainline and not jumping ship will appeal to many who will be good employees who equally work hard.
If that wasn't a case, then they wouldn't have any training captains etc
Having met & spoken to JB, he is actually quite a nice bloke, helpful and as stated, given me his time to chat and advise.

AA, I don't see anyone on this thread with 6000 hours? Or are you referring to yourself?
This job, it seems to me, is aimed at those near the start of a commercial flying career. It is in the nature of the beast that those with the hours to qualify for an early command would want to do so - but that could be at the expense of FOs already on the fleet. It seems that BMI Reg are trying to protect those FOs coming up to command by taking on new people who will remain both in the right hand seat, and in the company, for a few years.
I don't suppose I, with 12000+ hours (nearly all multi-turbine or multi-jet) would get an interview either!

Hello,
Slightly off at a tangent, but I am sure all those from the bmir 146 fleet who were made redundant in March 02 and still have not got jobs will be glad to read this thread.
About half of the 60 pilots still are without employment, and none have been reemployed on the ERJ.Hows that for a good company?I wonder if it is illegal ?
hmmmm.

Hi Scroggs,
Unfortunately not having a tattoo on your forearm would prevent you from getting an interview. An absolute must if you are going anywhere near Aberdeen, Rgds.

I guess they phoned round a few of us today, I've also got an interview next week. Maybe I'm not searching in the right place, but I can't seem to find any info in the archives on helpful tips for the interview.
If anyone has some past experience they'd like to share, please get in touch - as this is my first, I'm pretty nervous, and would llike to be as prepared as possible. Many thanks!!!

Just for your collective intelligence files: I have 3300 hours, 2000 multi-crew turboprop. I recieved an email this morning from John Bell saying 'thanks, but no thanks'. Fortunately I have found a job elsewhere. Perhaps this means they are looking for low houred pilots. Good luck to you all!

Only guessing, but I suspect Crisis may be an Oxford grad as BMI Regional have agreed to take a number of them just recently. If that's true, then shame on OAT for not prepping you better. After all, they do have these superb relationships with the recruiters. Maybe.
