How much impact does an OAT report have?

I've just finished my CPL with Oxford and I'm well into the IR.
While I'm happy with the standard of training (especially ground school) on the APP course, I did struggle a little. Sure I have first time passes in ground and flight tests - indeed I worked my undercarriage off to get them.

HOWEVER...... as promised, OAT have written a report which they fully intend to make available to the airlines who approach them looking for me and my fellow APP graduates. Mine isn't brilliant. Rather than buzz words like "enthusiastic" and "eager", mine has worrying highlights like "lack of concentration", and my favourite "Relaxed in his approach" (this from an instructor in Phoenix who fell asleep during a flight around an 8000ft mountain in N.Arizona while my Pa28 Arrow developed an over heating problem after the climb from Sedona at a p.Alt of 5500ft)

Does anyone out there know how much ofthis is taken as gospel and what sort of reports the airlines prefer etc. Should I buy myself a 6ft length of rope or not worry so much?

dont worry at all about your arizona report as the one which is really important is your final one which u get when u graduate.
if u did pass ground school examinations with 85% or above AND your CPL exam with a 3 first time ....u got good chances you'll be called by BA for their (very tough) recruiting process nothwithstanding your arizona report!

This report is going out to BA this week along with what I thought was quite a good CV.
Had a shocker in my CPL despite passing. Got the 85% average- and was so relieved to have achieved my goals. My initial urge is to blame my Arizona instructor but I know that you can't do that when it comes to the question they'll ask me at an interview (assuming I get that far).
Of course the responsibility is primarily mine but how would you answer the questions based around cutting comments questioning "Concentration" and "Commitment". How can you prove the report wrong using words at an interview? Why would anyone hire a pilot who as far as they know (as the report is all they have to go on), struggles with these quite vital traits.

I am hoping that my IR instructor will contradict many of these comments for my graduation report. Maybe that could make a difference when it comes to looking at the other airlines?
Bare in mind that airlines have over 50 pilots at a time to choose from at OAT and this report is all they will see.

I think you should go and have a chat with the management at the school to address the worries you have concerning this report. Explain to them where and why you feel hard done by, which will allow them to give their interpretation of how things stand. Remember, they will be just as keen on getting you employment as you are.

p.s. a friendly tip - don't go putting the name of your instructor on a public forum without seeking his permission to do so first, he may not appreciate you doing so.

Don't sweat it. The final reports are always a glowing testimony to what a fine product has graduated from the Thames Valley's premier flight school. Another perfect little Stepford Wife clone from the sausage factory.

I hardly recognise myself in mine (I'm pretty sure my FIs had something else to say about me at the time), and I doubt Mister Geezer would either! Ain't that right mate?

Mister Geezer,

I am not worthy of working here, I am but a keen and humble student.

Cool

CPL_Ace

If it makes you feel any better, I never needed to show my final report for getting my first job.

VC10 Rib22

Despite the profile I think that there is someone in a high place in OAT hiding behind that username. Not too long ago I recall a pseudo statement from that username from someone in management from OAT, which was clarifying a few facts in an anti OAT thread. I won't give any more clues away but I know who you really are!!!

Nice try but you need to change you username if you want to pretend to be someone else!!!

Maude Charlie

My final report didn't say that I was a gash hooligan so in other words it was far from the truth!!! he he

Mister Geezer,

I can assure you I have never allowed anyone to post using my username, nor will I ever allow it, and I am certainly not a member of OAT management masquerading as someone else. Although this kind of behaviour understandably does occur regularly on pprune, I promise you I am not in any kind of responsible position to require it, being a mere student at Oxford. As such I have always backed them to the hilt on pprune where I felt necessary - as any student would back his/her respective school - more often than not to give balance to the large anti-Oxford brigade that is to be found within.

Please feel free to divulge which of my statements caused you to confuse me with the management, I am most interested in what it could be - if I was a betting man I reckon it would be something to do with the Seneca saga some time back.

If you are ever in the area and wish to be allayed of your suspicion, please feel free to let me know and you can meet me in person.

Sorry but that is not from a student, unless they are not in the real world! No FTO is perfect and every student will have their own personal comments!

Mister Geezer,

As I mentioned previously, I have backed Oxford "where I felt necessary". So far, they have given me no reason not to back them. This may change when I get around to the flying part of the course because this is when, in my opinion, relationships between schools and their customers can be become strained, as this part of the training holds greater complexities than the fluidity of groundschool.

I'm sorry there is nothing more I can say to convince you of my true position within Oxford, apart from asking you to contact any people who you still have contact with here, or reading my previous posts on pprune.

If your appetite for a pprune conspiracy is still not satisfied, may I direct you to the following post - it may help.

Interesting subject

I was an OAT graduate and concerned with the content on some of my final report, I believe it clearly showed a personality conflict. I addressed the issue with management and this was changed. I had the report evaluated by professionals in different sectors all of whom reached the same conclusion, it was very subjective prior to the management kindly resolving the issue for me.

As for reports going to BA, I dont know if the whole report gets sent in, I saw a document that had the names off "recommended students" and "additional candidates", those on the additional candidates page had comments beside them about the specific candidate as to why they were on the "additional candidate" page and not the "recommended candidate". Those on the recommended did selection those on the additional..... as far as I know didn't get called for selection.

who knows ?????????????
