Question FlyBe Sim Check

Hi

Does anyone have any information about the sim check for Flybe on the BAE sim at Woodford?

Any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Imp!

reckon that you will get a beech king air. flying out of jer or gci. You will have to fly a sid, track an ndb and vor. STAR back to the field followed by an ils, go-around then procedural NDB!!! If not, something very similar!

Good fun, you will enjoy it.

Two friends of mine did it on the KingAir FNPT2 at Cabair and the format was as follows:

Take off from runway 26L at Gatwick, Seaford SID.
General handling (climbing, turning, descending) followed by taking up the hold at Astra and then procedural ILS runway 26L LGW to land. All hand flown (i.e. no autopilot).

They were given the option of flying it "single pilot style" - i.e. doing it all yourself like you do on the 170a/IRT or "multi crew style" - i.e. asking the non handling pilot (examiner) to raise gear, flaps, set frequencies etc. They both opted for Multicrew and reckon it was the right move (both got the job!).

Thanks Guys!

Thank you for your replies and advice.

I have already done a sim check at Cranfield in the King air type sim and the profile was almost exactly as moggie listed.

This is my second sim assessment and I believe it is on a larger jet type this time?

I really enjoyed flying the sim at Cranfield and am looking forward to this one. The problem is when you want the job so much it is hard not to get too nervous!

Thank you once again for your replies

Regards

Imp

Double sim check?

Impartial.

I also underwent the sim assesment at Cabair earlier on this year, I opted to fly 2 crew and realy enjoyed the experience.

Got the letter a few weeks later on to say I was in the hold pool.

Is it normal to have 2 sim rides before being offered the job? or are they planning to put you on the 146?
I was informed that all new hires would be for the Q400.

Also when did you hve the initial interview and sim check?

Cheers dude

P.S. best of luck.

Devil Normal!

When is anything in this industry ever normal!!

Some of my friends already work for flybe and they only had the kingair sim check then went onto the Dash fleet. i hadn't heard of anyone having a second sim check on the 146 until I was told I was having one. Worried me somewhat at the time but I'm looking forward to it!

I had my initial interview in April and then sim check in May.

Congrats on getting into the holding pool JarJam, hopefully you'll get "the call" soon

Cheers

I was one of the 6 taken on with FLYBE in June and since then its only been a few more from SAS.

All of us have gone straight onto the Q400.

Just wanted to wish you all good luck with the sim. The second sim ride is news to me.

Great people at FLYBE to date, probably see some of you guys / girls soon.

Cheers

All done!

JarJam: I have 300 hours with an FI rating and JAA CPL/IR (frozen ATPL)

Thaks to all of you for your advice and tips. The simulator was great to fly. We were told that we would not be given any pass/fail indication and would have to wait until the company contacts us.

It was 2 candidates at a time switching between Pilot Flying and Pilot Not Flying. Flying was from Right hand seat.

Hopefully I'll hear soon. Good luck to any of you out there who had the check and also to anyone going through selection at the moment!

Cheers

Sorry to cut in here fella's. I am just about to finalize JAR conversion from a Canadian licence. I have 3000 hours all on light turbo's (BE20/DHC-6). Should I toss my hat in the ring at FLY BE?

Just curious to see if they would look at me, pay and conditions, chances of getting Exeter as a base, what I would be flying and how long to command etc.

Thanks in advance.

Canadiankid - You have got nothing to lose my sending your CV to Flybe. I think they've stopppsed recruiting for a short while, trying to clear the backlog of training.
Chances of getting EXT as a base - anything is a possibility, but you only want a job if you could be based at EXT or are you able to go anywhere?
Pay and conditions - not the highest by any means, but still a great company to work for. I've been here 8 months and am loving every minute.

82,

Thanks for the info. Exeter would be perfect because I like the town, I like Devon and I have a wicked pad I could rent of a buddy on the river int own.

What is the command process there? How long and what are the parameters? Does coming with a fair amount of turbo time put you in a good spot? I am just curious.........

Thanks again

I heard this morning that my sim check went well and although I haven't been given a start date yet I am definitely well in the holding pool!

IMP and BOB FLEM

Firstly congratulations IMP, its looking like next year now for any new hires, 2 new a/c to arrive in nov/dec time!
Were nearly there now its just a matter of time.

Bob: I sent my firsy C.V to flybe about 3 years ago and continued to do so every 200hrs or so.
After sending probably the 10th C.V and beginning to feel very disheartend, I had a phone call one day asking me to go down to Exeter for interview.

Same old same old just a case of luck and timing also I think the 1200hrs helped in my case and the fact that I am particularly handsome.

Cheers.

Devil cv cv and more cvs

Cheers JarJam, hopefully see you soon!!

Bob

I handed Don Darby a completed application form when he visited Oxford back in September 2001 (before I had completed my IR). I then kept updating him when I passed my IR, when I finished my MCC and at regular intervals. Like JarJam I must have sent 8 - 10 CVs before I got "the call!!"

I have Guernsey Residency rights which were pointed out on the application form and on all the following CVs (which I'm sure is one of the main draws for me)

I finally got an interview in April this year and a sim check in May. I have been contacting the company regularly for updates on my progress in the holding pool. Then a few weeks ago they wanted me to go for another sim check on the BAE146 sim indicating that there would be a job shortly after if I was successful.

I was told last week that the sim went well, however I am back in the holding pool and they have no indication of a start date as yet.

It is a long up hill struggle and from my own experience and knowledge of the experiences of others, simply sending cv's out isn't the way to get a job. Every covering letter and CV should be tailored to the company it is being sent to. It seems to be important to follow up your cv's by visits or phone calls. It is a fine balance between being enthusiastic and being a nuisance so be careful.

Unfortunately it seems a lot of "right place right time", and "not what you know but who you know", is still out there. The job market has definitely been picking up and having been watching it for the last 2 years the last few months have seen a more positive outlook.

It is difficult. My phone call came just as I was seriously contemplating a career change and forgetting airlines.

I wish all of you out there the best of luck in your job searches. (I still need luck, I'm not in there yet, and there's a lot more learning and training to come) If I can help then I will, but the only person, at the end of the day, who can get you a job, is you.

Best wishes

Imp

Just out of interest which 146 sim was it at woodford, and did you fly a similar profile on your second sim ride as the first at Cabair?
Thanks
