Grrr IQ tests and University

I've just got my CPL and NGT VFR (Australia) and an airline pilot is my childhood dream. But this is not about my life story - I just met a Cathay F/O today for coffee and my main question to any airline pilot is 'how serious do airline interviewers use the results from IQ tests?' I went through school and university, a top student with good grades and a good pilot - but I have to admit - I suck at IQ tests (big-time). I've bought books on IQ tests etc etc and are trying to improve my ability. The pilot I met today said that the IQ tests are a load of *so and so* and dont worry a thing about them. The opinions are varied. I'll keep doing my best. And what are the opinions on a Bachelor degree? I'm doing an Advanced Diploma in Aviation through my ground school - recognized tertiary education... Do you think it will cut the grade.
Cheers guys and God Bless..

I think they are more interested in what your flying and attitude are like.

I wouldn't worry mate, I know airline pilots without many o' levels, let alone degrees.

I agree. I was worried about the same things. IQ tests are nothing, if you can prove to the interviewer that you are an excellent pilot with the ability to be a captain on one of their aircraft and have the right attitude.

I have 10 GSCE's all at C and above. No A levels, never mind a degree, and I find myself perfectly mentally fit to fly aircraft, as do my flight instructors.

Good Luck

I like to agree with P.Savage.

I have 9 GCSE's. I also have 3 AS Levels but I tend to ignore them as they are poor grades and I hated college! I knew exactly what I wanted to do and so I went for it. I should hopfully finish my frozen ATPL by the end of this year **looks outside at weather**.

I don't think it's down solely to IQ tests. I wouldn't want to sit with a captain who gained the highest IQ test but was the most boring, arrogant so and so on this planet (I hope I'm not either!). I'd prefer to sit next to someone with a common curtesy, varied background and a great personaility....then I might ask about what kind of flying he's been up to in his past.

Maybe that's how the interview works, I've been told it's similar. All they are looking for is a non-ass-wiper, non-biatch-about-yourself, truthful and trustworthy good guy.

The thing I dread is trying to show Mr Interviewer than I can be a good leader, capable of becoming a captain, without screwing something else up in the interview

Cheers
