Flybe sponsoring again

FYI page 55 of today's Flight Intl has an ad saying that Flybe is sponsoring again. Age 20-28, doing the Integrated course with CCAT Cranfield. "Substantial contribution" mentioned.

Also ad for Netjets Open Day on 2 October in Gatwick (Meridien Hotel), for 1500hr+ unfrozen ATPLs.

Both bu@@er all use for a 31-yr old with <1500hrs, but may be of interest to you.......

Must have confused the living daylights out of the career development officer at OAT who seems to think they have some sort of exclusive deal with flybe for recruitment.

Probably explains why we have no update today.

Slightly odd Flybe advert.

No mention of how much you have to contribute. No mention of how many they are looking for. Seems to suggest you have to already be at CCAT to be eligible...? Is it for direct entry to the turboprop or jet fleet - probably the former. No mention of selection fees which were a big feature of previous CCAT/Airline partial sponsorships.

Still, encouraging news.

Cheers

when i went last year

first round of test etc was ~£40
second round was ~£120

contribution was £15,000

for £15,000 you got atpl ground school, CPL and Instructor Rating.
(Can't remember about the living costs part)

www I suspect you're right about the turbo prop fleet. I'm sure they say something about fleet depending on current demands. If all is to be believed they will be flying A318/9 in 2.5 years time after you finish being an instructor

E-mailed this afternoon. Should get my application form later in the week.

By the time the course starts I will have passed all my theoreticals as I am nearing end of DL with LGU. Would that rule me out? Still got my CPL/IR/MCC to do though.
Thoughts people?

DONT UNDERSTAND WHY FLYBE ARE SPONSORING WHEN THERE ARE LOADS OF BOYS AND GIRLS OUT THERE WITH THE QUALIFICATION ALREADY.

I think all the details are included with the prospectus they send through and the rather small form you have to fill in.

Last year personal contribution was the small sum of £32,000

I wonder how many pilots FlyBe could have sponsored instead of sponsoring Birmingham City FC, and I wonder how much revenue such a sponsorship brings in?

Timszta - I'm affraid you probably won't be eligible but give Cabair a call. They may well be doing or planning an instructor sponsorship which you should be eligible for.

Selection fees as mentioned earlier cover the high quality photocopied answer sheets.

All new hires currently starting on the Dash-8 Q400 so I'm told.

Best of luck, expensive scheme but worth a bash. I did, failed and am soon to join the 200hour unemployed pilots club.

Regards Airbus in 2.5 years time, I believe that is now B737-700 instead
As for sponsorships, well it was never the best deal around but in these times its one of the only deals around.

I have not seen the ad. Do most newhires start in the Quad-Jet or the stretched Dash? Anybody flying that Dash 400? Looks like fun!

All newhires into the company will go onto the Dash8-Q400, The only people going straight onto the BAe146 are guy's from agency's like PARC etc.
The last Dash8-200/300 courses were completed in August.

Jonny English,

Wouldn't slate turboprops too early. Even the classic Dash 200/300 had a more appropriate FMS to the big Boeing/Airbus boys. The 146 teaches you lots of raw data awareness and it is jet time. But it seems airlines do also like FMS/glass cockpit time these days to. And the Q400 is full EFIS.

At least you will become a more "rounded" pilot having flown other types during your career.

not forgetting that the ex Thai 146's have EFIS kit similar to the 737-300.

Last time I spoke to the FOD it was company policy that everyone joins through the turboprop fleet, including experienced jet drivers. Fair enough.

What they get is a pilot who is bonded to them for three years. Although the t/p is a great aircraft to start out on, most pilots will leave as soon as a jet job comes along. With the sponsored pilots, most are unable to leave because of the amount they owe flybe. Also they get away with paying you less, so it works out well for them all round.

we'll they're not a registered charity so what do you expect? The only difference between this and doing it yourself is the job at the end of it. I believe there are plenty of people who have paid for it themselves and have no jobs to show for it. No airline sponsors pilots because they think its morally right..they will all take their pound of flesh on way or the other. In the current climate you may well be better taking such a scheme with a job at the end of it..unless you are planning another 20k for a 737 rating on completion. The industry is not crying out for new pilots at the moment and may not be for some time

I'd question whether FlyBE have to contribute anything at all ...... all the candidates will go to Cabiar and flyBE will probably get a discount for their trade!!!!!

On the aircraft front, i'm a PPL and as far as i'm concerned if somone sponsors me, and gets my in the RHS, in the current climate I don't give a monkeys what it is Also, someone tell me where you can do a modular ATPL for 32k???
