As a coloured french man, I have a lot of issues with the french, regarding them being arrogant and them feeling superior. I have experienced that reality first hand. I have had my "very angry" period about it, but now I have moved on ... moving to the UK have helped a great deal ...
I am saying this with the only purpose to show you that if any bias I have, it is in favour of english lovely people ... and yet, as far as the pilot profession is concerned I would wholeheartedly back CL300 very spot on post.
I observe that the french way of ignoring the rules from time to time and "doing it their own way" may present the risk of going too far and seriously compromising safety. However this nature is a very valuable asset when it comes to handling non standard situations where adaptation outside the SOP's is required.
I have a lot of stories where my intention to hand fly raw data ... for the fun ... are met by my british colleagues with them looking for the panic button... and as things go smoothly with the needles hitting the right numbers, I am all of a sudden regarded like an exceptionnal pilot. I just then tell them the truth:"I have just done what I was taught in the flying school". It was a french school and I feel lucky to have been taught the french way... nothing exceptionnal there

Capetonian :
The French have a couple of pretty fundamental flaws in their approach to life in general, and this is reflected in the way the country and its public and private enterprises operate.

Firstly there is the credo that most French people follow, that French is best, and that nobody else has a clue. Therefore they will not listen.

Secondly there is the 'blame' culture whereby somebody else always has to be blamed for failings
Being Different is not necessarily having flaws .. If you think that you asume that your culture is superior. I do not think that the fact of being French is the problem in Aviation in France today. I think for instance that the elitist education ( Polythechnique, ENA, Mines, etc..) that provides our leaders has some dark sides .
But good ones as well. Arianespace, Eurocopter or Airbus would never have seen the success they had without some elitist Frenchmen "pushing" the others.
However in terms of Airmanship when you put that into recruitment ,as was explained here earlier in details, yes , the French culture is not the best ...

Another problem is recognising its own mistakes and ask help outside this elitist education system. Vicious circle. Also the fact that there is no forgeiners working in cockpits in AF is in-breeding the problems, i.m.o.

Ironically though it seems that to some of you the zenith of French culture is Johnny Halliday and Charles Aznavour. Please guys, do yourselves a favour, and take a long hard look at the absolute rubbish that some of you have written here. France has produced writers, philosophers, musicians, and scientists of note, even if one discounts those whom you have claimed as French when they weren't, and yet the best you can come out with are Aznavour and Halliday. How sad is that?
What? You came out with it, i just quoted you, I was only wondering why as a south african, you know aznavour, it seems weird to mee, and a little bird tells me you are not saying everything on why you have an issue with french people.

I think you are the first one ever who have mentionned Aznavour on PPrune. You interest/knowledge for the french culture while you are bashing it confuses me. Follow the link bellow:

KAG : I had hoped to avoid taking this to a personal level, but I have to say now, reading your last post, that I think you are not very bright. You are the first person to have dragged up Halliday/Aznavour on this thread.

Is there any reason why the fact that I know something about the French, and yet fail to admire some of the less enviable characteristics, is a paradox? In my view, knowledge serves to validate opinions.

If I knew nothing of France, the French, the language, or the culture, then I would be standing on very unsafe ground. As it is, I know precisely what I'm talking about and am in a strong position to defend my views. You appear to have a problem with this. Tant pis!

The first post in this thread: 21 december 2009:

You speaking about Hallyday and Aznavour: 12 december 2009:

First time it appears in this thread:26 december 2009:
Me clearly asking you why do YOU know Aznavour and Hallyday, so of course I refer to your post written on the 12 december 2009.
-You hate french people and culture, yet you understand french, you know Aznavour, and Johnny Hallyday.

Now that I understand you really want to stay here, may I ask you a question? How many south african speak french and know Aznavour?
(this thread page 2)

I had hoped to avoid taking this to a personal level
So just don' t.

Thanks Amex, I've added KAG to my ignore list so I won't have to read any more of his KAK. I wasn't aware of this useful function, so finally I have learnt something useful from a French person!

Not that I know it all but would be nice to improve something into that specific area, at least in my own opinion.

Incident: Air France A318 and El Al B772 near Belgrade on Dec 28th 2009, loss of separation

Is it really necessary to be so vulgar and abusive?

Happy now? I hope not.

@ ATC

But one of the basic question remains....why do French guys always take their own ways. Do not get me wrong, how comes that trafic control at CDG is still in French ? And this even after an apron accident years ago ??? Sorry to say but this is ignorance and French AF unions even back it ! Any more comments ? Do not think so......

If you quote me, kindly do so fully and in context. What I wrote was .....

...... it seems that to some of you the zenith of French culture is Johnny Halliday and Charles Aznavour. Please guys, do yourselves a favour, and take a long hard look at the absolute rubbish that some of you have written here.
Oh and "me, myself and I" piss higher than you and yourself
So being able to piss higher than someone else is your criterion for considering yourself superior to someone else. That really says it all! Some 5 year old boys show a greater degree of maturity in their playground conversations.

You need to take it easy, let you hair down and take things not so seriously. But hey nobody's perfect, not even me
