BAC Express redundancies
Did hear a rumour that most of the pilots will be laid off!!
Can anybody on the inside tell me or this is true (or even better tell me it's not) Good luck to everybody C.A.L. |
Yes, I have heard the same rumour from a number of sources... as to the number who are "free to leave" I don`t know - suffice to say it`s a very high percentage...
It`s very, very sad - the crews and engineers are a wonderful bunch of people - I had the pleasure and privilege of working with them for many years. I wish them well - maybe an annual BAC reunion at The Fitzwilliam would not be amiss - once things have settled and everyone is gainfully employed... |
Yes, they have been given notice as to when their Royal Mail contracts will end and are making most if not all of their UK based shed pilots redundant.
Sad news but hardly unexpected. |
Not good news at all, but there must surely be recruitment in the immediate future for the aircraft that will replace the sheds et al in the new year (though in far fewer numbers since I understand 38 movements are being reduced to around ten!).
Its not a big industry. If you do your homework you could strike lucky. :ok: |
There must be some news out there?
What is hapening with the European routes and there pilots? are they looking at years in the company (last in first out) for the redundancies? C.A.L |
Hi folks! Anybody know if the F27 people are under threat too?
|
Immelman,
Not in this batch, but who know's about next year....... |
I can confirm that at least 16 pilots given notice to quit in mid Jan 2004, as has been said not unexpected but still quite a shock as everyone hoped the P.O would change their minds and kepp as is.
The european ops remain as is for now and may expand as I understand , so the company is far from down and out, just the guys and gals that make the shed fly. :( |
One senior manager was saying that the European operations would finish next year as well since BAC won't be getting ATR's for Fedex.
|
From what I've heard, there is a severe shortage of cash to go round. Seems that MF is putting a restructuring plan into place that will mean more lay offs and not just with the pilot work force. Why not let go of all the good people MF and keep the rotten eggs? Oh, but then that's happening already isn't it ? Another shot in the back for the loyal ones http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/ak47.gif
|
Gave the Norwich Shed FO some load and trim sheets. I wonder what the boss is going to say when he sees "Emerald" on them?
:E I really hope the crews are looked after and they get another job soon. Good luck. |
Ha ha, the only people BAC managment look after are themselves!
Very generous with the redundancy pay though - £260 per year of service! |
Well, the redundancy payment does sound a little thin...
Those who have been loyal to the family have, it appears, drawn the shortest straw... There is of course the possibility that the Post Office have not been entirely "up front" with BAC - until the very LAST minute of course... I feel that criticism of the MD may be totally unfounded - a far more legitimate area to consider would be Uday (Flying " A to B" is the easy bit...) and various senior Board personnel who are thoughtless at best - or a combination of arrogance, dysfunctional management skills and an amazing resolve to show no grace whatsoever. GOOD LUCK to the professional pilots and engineers at BAC EXPRESS..! |
BAC look after there staff that is a joke... Most of the good pilots all left this summer as MF just wants to look out for Number 1 and JS is ready to put the blame on anyone else apart from himself..
Good luck to all the Shed boys in getting into a proper airline |
While I was employed, MF/SF managed to get thru more staff
than mail carried on the sheds...Poor management from the top down.....only one result unfortunately.... so sorry for the shed guys and engineers can't beat working for a good boss..so next time may be you will find one... |
Thing is, can they survive on just FEDEX work and what happens when they mess that up? Very poor management with the BAC walls, it was only a matter of time before it all went wrong !
|
Was a great Company to work for some years ago.
but things where changing for the worst even before i left. Good luck to everybody involved. Neil |
Sorry guys, but Loyality and BAC dont fit into the same sentance.
Interesting to hear the comments on the management. JS is one individual that I have never heard a good word about, both from those who work for BAC and his customers! MF, well............. Best of luck guys, hope it all pans out for you, at least wherever you end up it cant be worse than where you are now!:yuk: |
Sky Rabbit - do you read ?
|
wazere
can't beat working for a good boss..so next time may be you will find one... |
It was long overdue that Royal Mail would goto Pastures New.
I wonder how long they can keep the Fedex Work going. By the time I left both SH36/F27 crew were all on a low due to the way they were treated by MF / JS. In the time I was there the turnover of staff was high but again staff need to be recognised and not criticized in the job they do. Good luck to who is left at BAC |
Seems MF + JS have a lot to answer for. Wasn't it MF's idea that he could get anyone off the street to work in Ops and then blamed them severely when things went wrong? Seems the Ops Manager has gone and yet MF didn't recognise his abilities and skills so yet another good egg gone. Some of the previous ops guys were good at their job too and yet again, MF didn't care and let them go......
I'd say the writing is on the wall for this lot..... good luck to those who remain. |
Maybe they will just sell it.
|
That's just their style isn't it
|
There was a good bunch in Ops but MF Never realised that morale was down and out. MF/JS always thought they could drag anyone in off the street and they would stay there because of what MF did for them...
People like MB needed to get out all the pilots respected him and knew that his hands were tied. Sell the company...mmm would be the best idea, but MF still thinks he is in his Dan Air days and he forgets that it is 2003 now. The only way they will survive is with getting rid of people like MF / JS and get a new bunch in there and organise and get it running properly. Give people a proper pay structure and recognise what people do for the company |
Fly_JEMS well said, get rid of MF / JS and I'd be interested in working for them and helping build up the company again. I guess though, the company would close before they went
|
Ah thats it, the vultures who 'know it all' are circling.
Well wrong on many counts to who ever it may concern. BAC have made redundancies that is of course is true, and some good guys will be lost, that is inevitable. FedEx remains strong and at the end of the day, lets face it Channel and Titan were always in a much better position with any post office jet contracts because, er durr they have the experience !! (The know it alls should know that... shouldnt thay.......shouldnt they ??) Oh for anyone interested if it were not for MF the company would have disintegrated a long time ago, chaps for the real story you have to look a bit higher to spot the general maliase that has gone on here for a long time, but then if you know it all then you will know that !! What a shame the moaners and haters will go, we will miss you, but only till er..the 11th of January !! Long live BAC and all that sails in her !! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Streets - Cult classic, not bestseller. |
The Street,
Glad to see you know the company well, if you knew that much, you would know its the end of February not 10th January. |
Rumour is that ACL is interested in BAC express for there Fed-Ex contracts.
Lets wait and see Neil |
No one needs to actually buy BAC, just pick up the contracts when the whole sorry mess falls over.
Emerald nearly bought BAC last year but bought Streamline as it fitted better their operating style. Emerald will be the front runners for the Fedex contracts due their close ties within France. Look out for the bones of BAc being picked over quite soon. Very sad, but the result of crap management. |
Obviuosly The Streets is trying to defend his corner!!!
I am surprised that the Fed-Ex work is still being done by BAC there is only so much a company will accept and it will not be long before they move to a decent carrier. If there was new management then maybe they could get out of this mess that they have got into .. My thoughts go with the pilots at this time of the year |
Has anyone got any updates on this?
|
I hear that the quality manager has left or is about to. Damn fine bloke by all acounts but where does this leave the stability of the AOC? With over 15 aircraft, no ops manager, no quality manager and things getting worse, how long will the CAA allow this to go on ?
|
I didn't realise that they had lost there Quality Manager. He is a great chap But never thought he would take too much of people like MF.
No Ops Manager again, this company goes through more Ops Managers than SH36's.. Feel sorry for those guys in Ops So where lies the Future of BAC Express????? I think it could be a rocky road, they need new management to try and boost the airline into the current day and not the 70/80's and like said previously with MF / JS there they may aswell close up shop Good Luck to all the SH36 Pilots that have been laid off .. Good lot of pilots there.. Just hope F27 Pilots are looking at other airlines to join |
So what news from the Little House on The Prairie in Horley ??
|
Did hear some ACL management where over at the little house today?????
Neil |
I hope the commercial director got a new calculator and instruction book for christmas, then maybe he will be more realistic with his future quotations, rather than the mess up he made with the Fedex and Royal Mail work.
Whats this Neil? ACL buying BAC? What they after, the Fedex routes? Or are BAC trying to operate their virtual ATR on ACL's aoc? |
Presumably BAC hold route licences on behalf of FDX? If so, I'd guess that ACL would be up for grabbing them rather than trying to buy out BAC. From what I know of the so-called management down there, they (ACL) would be doing a good job if they left the management team behind in Bonehurst Road. Many good people have come and gone over the years. The ops team was or could have been well worth hanging onto. Led by a good bloke at the top who was always getting his ears bashed by MF despite the cock ups that MF caused himself. Blame culture ruled in the offices and will continue to do so while MF is still there. The guy (MF) clearly needs to move on and catch up with the real world of aviation if BAC is to succeed. But that ain't gonna happen is it ?
|
I had the displeasure of working with MF in Dan-Air.....surely not long now before they give BAC a real chance to succeed by removing this fool.
|
I'm a firm believer in what goes around, comes around.
SEPT 95, I had bought my own Shed type rating and was offered a temp F/O posn. at NCL for BAC Express, with assurances from the then CP a fine man called EB. I was told one week before Christmas that my contract was to be made permanent after the New Year so renewed lease on my flat and looked forward to the future. We landed back at NCL early hours of Christmas Eve and I was presented with a fax. from MF wishing me a Merry Christmas but that my contract wasn't to be re-newed after all. It was transmitted 10 mins after we departed NCL at the start of the last Ex`NCL rotation before the Christmas 'Shutdown'. Fortunately myself and 2 other 'Rapex Refugee's' landed jobs within a couple of months with Gene Wilson's Zappers. You cannot imagine the contrast between the 2 types of operation. BAC was crappier than crap. Titan was smooth, informal, friendly yet professional and got every ammount of effort WILLINGLY out of its staff, run by people who cared and understood the value of a loyal workforce. Long may they reign. Long may MF and PS be aviation outcasts and pariahs. The industry just doesn't need them!! :ok: |
