Is MOB really that bad ?? :uhoh: What about the commercial/ops mngr etc etc. Doesn't he and his gang stand up for the troops, or is it a total dictatorial regime ? |

MOB isn't that bad! I've known him on and off since 95 and I can honestly say I've never had a problem with him. Sure, he has his moments like most management do but if you're good at your job, conduct your duties professionally and keep your nose clean then you shouldn't have a problem, well not too many problems! |
Do crew and ops get on?
Sure they do. Things were a bit shakey at first with the merging of the fleets and us being strangers and all. But once we got to know each other things began to run smoother (That and regular beatings with the birch twigs, but I think that was an initiation thing). It took a while for us to find out how each other operates but now each day gets better. It's nice to go into the office and catch up with the gos. The ops department is not there for the pampering of the crews they do a bloody good job in difficult conditions. A job well done - keep it up girls and guys we appeciate it. (even if others closer to home don't) |

Commercial manager was MOBs hatchet man when I was there. Stick up for the troops, not likely. The Ops Manager didn't even stick up for the troops and one of the troops was MOBs mole and reported to him as soon as he came in in the mornings. MOB was VERY good to the aircrew because the operation would collapse without them. Unfortunately, he didn't think the same about ops. Ops were blamed for everything that resulted from the shortage of aircrew, u/s aircraft etc, you name it, if it went wrong it was Ops fault. I remember ops telling the commercial manager NOT to sell a particular flight when he asked if it could be done. He went ahead anyway and when it couldn't be crewed without screwing up the nights/next days flying prog, naturally it was ops fault. If you can get a job ANYWHERE else, do it even in Outer Mongolia, or at least be prepared. Most, other than the die hards, only stay long enough to find another job. Best of luck mate Fred Shed, Agree with your last, Ops did, and probably still do, a FANTASTIC job under the most awful conditions and drag factors imaginable. Glad to see that at least the crews and ops are singing from the same hymn sheet. :ok: As for the job ... :ugh: Do you all see Emerald as going in the right direction despite management, or a sinking ship despite ops and crews hard work? If it's a sinking ship then it's an extremely small leak. I can however sympathise with a proportion of the views of ops staff & pilots. I have to say I am actually surprised there is any good will left in some of the pilots. It seems a common belief that once they've had 12 hours off since their last duty then they are available to be contacted for a change the following night. As any fool will know, CAP371 states that minimum rest is required before a duty period and not after thus phoning people, let us say, at 1700 when they may be reporting at 2100 is disturbing the siesta they so desperately need. OK, pressure is put upon the ops staff to do this but it is the nature of the beast, to survive in this business you need to be adaptable and if it doesn't happen, well it's already been mentioned who gets the blame for it. |

having been with the company now for a time that i feel is long enough to comment,
my thoughts on the ops staff to start of; they do a fantastic job considering the tools availible for use i.e computer systems,nav logs, plogs, flight planning systems, training given (non exsistant)etc.. although i do feel they should give the crew a bit more respect in the fact that they have families to and other people should respect that. crewing ? ops manager; personally i like the ops manager and get on with him very well and feel that he gets a lot of abuse from the upper ranks and therfor passes that onto the lower ranks and crew. it is like a football manager going into a team with no money and expecting to win the premiership it aint gonna happen. the crew (748) fantastic bunch of guys willing and hard working and if anything over worked but like said earlier on THEY HAVE FAMILIES TO!and not enough people respect this fact the crew (360) Not really to sure what to say as i dont see them very much but would like to get to know them a lot better if time permits. Many of the comments made on this site are somewhat pathetic but it a forum and you have to respect peoples views. |
I find it quite incredible actually that some people place such little value on being employed.
More than one contributor has all but identified themself to anyone with half a brain at Emerald, and then proceeds to take the piss and whinge. Redundancies have even been suggested, so who do you think may be 1) At the front of the line should it come to cutbacks. 2) At the back of the line when it comes to getting a shot at the ATP. Are you mental? |

Well I may have been accused of being MOB or even worse hanging from his a**, but it’s now more than obvious that I am not the only one who enjoys working for this company.
Yes some of the decisions and roster changes can be a complete pain in the back side but this is the nature of the night freight / adhoc charter beast. Again I say if you don't like this type of work why stay? However any downside is far out weighed by working with a great bunch of pilots, ops staff and engineers who work hard, play hard, laugh hard and yes sometimes fight and argue hard. And no Engineer this is not third rate airline where inexperience pilots get their first break and mediocre ones shine. These guys fly in the worst weather Britain and Europe can throw at them, at night, in spring, summer, autumn and winter regularly down to minimums without an automatic in sight. And as for MOB, well lets put it this way. I only have to get an aircraft around on time. He has the unenviable task of keeping 150+ people employed so they can pay there mortgages in an extremely cut throat and volatile industry which makes the odd roster change seem very insignificant !!! |

do you REALLY like it or are you too SCARED to say you don't. MOB is a bully and like i keep saying, they' are a right shower of s***t. when the industry perks up, he'll realise how his managemnt skills will have driven everyone worthy of something better away. still, he could do it all himself again. GET A LIFE! |

I don't work for Emerald but have got a good mate who is an F/O and know a few others in the company. dada, You are going to come across people who lack management skills throughout aviation, until recently we had a HR manager in the company i work for who caused no end of problems. Can't comment on MOB becuase i've never met him, but even if like you say he alienates the people who work for him and they do leave thats not your problem. In any case for many Emerald is a stepping stone for many. |

Perhaps you should change your handle to 'Chip'! Have you ever actually tried to sit down with MOB for an informal chat without the chip on your shoulder that you so obviously have? Yes, he has his management 'moments' but if you actually tried to get to know him you would find he is a reasonably normal guy and actually has a sense of humour. I guess you are so unhappy and distraught with the situation you shall be resigning this week. Or, are you one of these wonkers that hides behind a handle on the internet and hasn't got the balls to speak in public? I'm not hiding, I'm sure Mick and a few others know exactly who I am! |

Oh I say, this thread has certainly kicked off since I last looked.
Agree with Fred Shed on most points, Ops and crew do get on pretty well for the most part and considering the limited resources and support they get from above they do a good job. Saying that there is a 'can't be assed' and 'it's not my problem' attitude filtering down from the north, slowly taking over the company. Not surprising really. But there you go we all have our moments, life's too short and all that bollox. I think most people who work for the company know what the root cause of the problems are (those that don't obviously need a brain transplant) and maybe a good idea for his Christmas pressie this year would be a people management skills course, amongst other things.
