ATP's For Emerald

STOP PRESS NEWS

Emerald Airways are to aquire 7 ATP's commencing in July 04.

Get your CV's in.

P.S. Anyone seen next weeks rosta yet? I heard a rumour it may be ready today.

cruiseczechs 5th September 2003 21:12

The timing of the news of the new aircraft is uncanny, the same day we find out about Emerald losing all of their mail contracts. Royal Mail is a big contract for Emerald, It's like them saying "we've lost the mail, but it's not going to stop us expanding"

FougaMagister 5th September 2003 23:58

Fred Shed - so what's wrong with the ATR42? That's a much more common aircraft (loads more type-rated pilots), with a choice of contractor for cargo conversion (Aeronavali in Venice and SOGERMA in Bordeaux), whereas for the ATP it's Westair Sweden or Westair Sweden - and it comes with a growth option to the 72 series... Plus a proper glass cockpit.

So it is all down to £££££ or does Emerald know something we don't?

Cheers

kabz 6th September 2003 00:52

Sure it's not just a typing error .... :}

Fred Shed 6th September 2003 02:06

That's a genuine company statement, but as we all know a lot can happen by next July.
As for the ATR well it is all down to money I fear.
The PO made up about 30% of the contracts we do but there are other things in the pipeline. I do hope someone on high has got the sums right and there is some form of plan to it all.
There is a lot of money to be made filling in for tech aircraft at short notice which is what the old Streamline was good at. Lets all be optimistic and look to the future.

smellster 7th September 2003 17:56

Fred Shed,

What company statement is this? Obviously employees south of CVT aren't worthy of this information, maybe they think they've already closed the LTN base! Probably why I still haven't received a roster for this coming week, roll on the surprises tomorrow.

'It's time to play the music, It's time to light the lights, It's time to get things started on the Emerald show tonight.'

redsnail 7th September 2003 19:55

Hey Smellster,
My roster turned up on Sat. Hand written and ooh just remembered I have to call to say we got it. :D
Brian should have had a copy of the email sent. Our notice is just a faxed copy from sunny LPL.
With all this doom and gloom, another FO has just started at CVT.
Perhaps an end to our 12-13 hour day/nights? nah............

ATP Freight Doors

There is an option to Westair, see the following press release issued in June 2003

BAE SYSTEMS AND ROMAERO AGREE ATP LARGE FREIGHT DOOR PROGRAMME
17 June 2003

BAE SYSTEMS Regional Aircraft and Romaero commercial aerostructures manufacturer, have agreed a programme under which romaero will build 10 Large Freight Door (LFD) installation kits for the ATP regional turboprop freighter, in anticipation of an installation programme being planned by Regional Aircraft over the next two years.

Romaero has also been contracted by Regional Aircraft to carry out repairs on a number of ATPs that were damaged by freak hailstorms when in storage at Zaragossa, Spain.

It is likely that once these repairs have completed, some of these will have E-Class freight interiors fitted along with the Large Freight Doors at Romaero's Baneasa, near Bucharest. The first aircraft will be ferried to Baneasa at the end of June and completed with freight interior and Large Freight Door as early as the first quarter of 2004.

The E-Class interiors will be those designed by British European Aviation Services in a joint programme with Regional Aircraft.

It is anticipated that some of the Large Freight Door modules that have been manufactured by Romaero will be offered to other ATP customers who may elect to have their door fitted at other centers of their choice.

Romaero has been a partner to BAE SYSTEMS for many years, notably on the ROMBAC BAC One-Eleven licence production programme in the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s. Among the BAC One-Elevens produced were a number with freight doors fitted. Romaero also continues to be the main production site the Britten-Norman Islander utility transport aircraft, hundreds of which have built over several decades. It also manufactures rear fuselage for the Gulfstream G200 business jet.

In assessing Romaero's suitability for the repair task, manufacture of the LFDs, and likely installation of the freight interiors and doors, BAE SYSTEMS Regional Aircraft carried out an extensive technical audit of Romaero's facilities and processes.

John Williamson, Vice President Technical Operations and Business Support of Regional Aircraft commented: "Romaero passed our stringent audit with flying colours. We are impressed with their capabilities and quality procedures. The manufacture of the Large Freight Doors and the plan for installation will be very cost-effective meaning that freight airlines will receive a product that is priced to the needs of the market. We hope that this current partnership agreement can be extended and widened over time."

The time scale would seem to fit into Emerald's plan.

FougaMagister 8th September 2003 21:46

I stand corrected re. the ATP cargo door conversion - however, this new program only exists on paper so far, while ATRs get delivered new with a bulk cargo door as standard. Good to see though that the ATP is belatedly getting a deserved second life as a freighter.

Cheers

Fred Shed 9th September 2003 17:39

"Smellster Buddy"
If you keep working all your off days and come in at short notice without complaining, don't claim any expenses and pay for your own hotels and taxis then this time next year you might be in with a slight chance of being on the ATP short list. "Happy Days - Happy Days"

redsnail 9th September 2003 20:43

Taxis?? Taxis??

Now who do I see about getting a lift over to the hangar?

jafo33 10th September 2003 03:16

Hang on, LPL sunny???

As for the ATP's, surely someone has some new contracts up their sleeve to pay for these and offset the loss of the Mail?

Well, hopefully..

'erindoors 10th September 2003 04:50

redsnail

I preferred your unedited post - gave me a right good laugh. My other half often relates similar stories and there I was thinking it was typical male exaggeration.

JJflyer 10th September 2003 15:36

ATP's

Was there any particular reason why ATP earned the less than appealing nickname of "Another Technical Problem"?
Any particular problems that it has that still occur or any problems that where fixed?

Cheers

JJ

Fred Shed 10th September 2003 18:14

Redsnail

I've brought your concerns Re the transport problem at Coventry to the attention of the company and they have assured me that the bicycle is on order with a further 3 being phased in over the next 12 months.

redsnail 10th September 2003 23:21

Ahhhhhhh so the rumour that management had bought 3 flight case bike racks was true. Who will do the conversion to the said push bike? :D

Fred Shed 11th September 2003 00:45

These are the standard 'e' class bicycles but the company has an option on a further 5 with the shopping basket conversion.

redsnail 11th September 2003 01:11

So, will the conversion mean that our flight bags can be put in ULD's or will they still have to be hand loaded (or forked haha like us) by a team of loadies? Has the contract been awarded? Will the new conversions mean that we can compete with the flash multi geared derailleur push bikes that other operators are using? Although having a quiet shufti around sunny Coventry I think the Penny Farthing is the height of push bike technology there. :ok:

preston 18th September 2003 01:02

HI ALL

your biles are on order for ya!

:ok: :ok: :ok: :ok: :D

BIKES even!

:D

Civil Servant 24th September 2003 20:29

Does this mean that MOB has finally agreed to pay more than ten bob and a pickled egg for his a/c?

Has he finally seen the light and realised that the way to keep an operation going is to buy some a/c that don't go tech at the slightest excuse and not rely on telling the ops staff every day they are c**p and any idiot can keep the schedules going?

You'll be trying to tell me next that he's hired enough crew to run a realistic roster without ops and/or crewing runing round and begging people to work their days off in exchange for "jam tomorrow".

As ever with EA, believe it when we see it!!!

Terror Hawker Sidney 26th September 2003 09:17

Emerald had 4 tech aircraft last night and a DC3 did some mail flight for the Royal mail ! Better be carefull lads we might lose the mail contracts !! DOH!

On a more positive note 2 new 748 f/o s have started recently so things MUST be looking up !?:ok: Anyone heard of their ATP course ?

redsnail 26th September 2003 14:06

A DC3? Well, I guess that is in keeping with the vintage aircraft theme. :D
Yeah, there's 2 Shed FO's starting too. (Well, one's started already, he's only on £7K per annum till he's checked to line). Apparently there's a TRTO course running soon on the Shed.
Happy days, happy days.
ATP course? nah.......

Fred Shed 30th September 2003 17:18

If we loose any more staff then Mr Charisma will be answering the phones himself and loading the a/c, or will we still have to do that?

Homer_J 30th September 2003 17:40

I heard that the ATPs were arriving and Emerald were going into the passanger market. BA were replacing them with barbie jets on some of the routes and Emerald were taking over the rest and a few new ones.

And that is supposed to kick off in january.

But then again I decoded this from a some smoke signals I saw over Wales the other day.....so you never know.

jafo33 2nd October 2003 15:55

Supposed to be true, although the route will probably be IOM four times a day.

And if its true that some of the ATP's are coming from Bangladesh, then they may already have some passengers on board!;)

sideshowbob 2nd October 2003 22:23

I see emerald are advertising for a tre on the atp in flight this week.

boxjockey99 10th October 2003 18:12

I thought the ATP already had some freighter variants, the project is a fair way on from being just on paper. West Air Sweeden displayed their cargo ATP at Farnborough last year with the rear cargo door that takes the ULD's... I could however be horribly wrong!

Box

Bodjit 14th October 2003 23:47

Good to see MOB hasn't changed, still as polite as ever then.

I thought the last time EA were gonna get ATPs it was binned cos the floors had to be strengthened as well as the door and it was gonna cost more than 2p.

Believe it when we see it .....:D

Fly_146 16th October 2003 03:50

So when are these ATP's scheduled to arrive? And are they going to be containerised for freight work or flying pax? :)

window-seat 16th October 2003 20:04

Hi everyone,

With all this talk of more a/c and a shortage of crew, how do i get myself a sniff of the action??? I only live 10 mins from LPL, and must have sent 3 CV's into Emerald over the last 10 months and ................. nothing??? What do I have to do?? Any ideas (serious) would be welcome ta!!!

w-s:confused:

redsnail 16th October 2003 21:53

Well, Flight International had an add for a few folk recently. Namely flight ops manager, cabin services manager, TRE/TRI for the Bae ATP and a maintenance controller....
To fly for them you need an endorsement on the Shed or the Budgie.
Or be prepared to buy one. The Shed fleet has recently taken on 2 FO's at Coventry.

Fred Shed 18th October 2003 20:29

Well they might as well keep the ad running because any one who accepts an offer of a job will quit before the ink on their contract dries. Did the ad say "Must be able to be humiliated in front of work colleagues and bullied by senior management"????When will the Company learn?

dada 19th October 2003 00:14

a right shower of **** if ever there was one

Ghostrider749 20th October 2003 03:51

Fred Shed can I just ask you something - if Emerald is such a bad company why do you still work for them?

Why don't you just resign and take up one of the numerous offers no doubt you have, from one of the list of airlines who are knocking at your door desperately trying to get your signature on a contract.

Furthermore why not take the pilots with a similar view point with you so that the pilots who enjoy working for this company can further there careers.

Oh and dada the intelligence of your reply astounds me!

redsnail 20th October 2003 07:11

Well,
at least the roster has finally settled down which is nice.
So far, no sign of redundancies.
Yet.

yachtpilot 20th October 2003 13:51

Anyone other than me notice this strange anomaly in the world of professional flying ??

Our whole professional pilot population appears ( at least from these pages and crew room chat generally ) to be split into 2 groups...

Group 1... Desperate wannabees... Applying huge effort...years of their time, tens of thousands of pounds, months of studying ....heartache, uncertainty... family pressures... And this is only the beginning ... having got the licence they continue on ... Dozens of letters... interviews...scouring the web sites and aviation mags for any sight of an opportunity to get into a cockpit...any cockpit...flying for food in the worlds worst cesspits...in some cases even at their own expence if necessary..

Then the transition takes place....a metamorphasis. The crawling caterpiller becomes a buterfly and moves to:-

Group 2.... Whinging, miserable malcontents.... The managements a farce....the roster stinks.. the bidding list fixed and unfair..the aircraft crap.. the contracts a joke. the salary blah ..blah.. Flight pay.... blah...

The transition would appear to measured in fractions of a nanosecond...

Ghostrider749 20th October 2003 15:33

Yachtpilot - my thoughts entirely but fortunately it is only the minority who fall into catagory 2 - they just appear to be very vocal on here

Fred Shed 20th October 2003 20:48

Ghostrider749 and all others who think we are a bunch of whingers.

I'm sorry to say that this is not the case. I can still remember the time I would have given anything for a job with anyone and I am still gratefull for the job I have. I constantly give 100% and more to the job I do and I love every minute (well most of it).

I hope I am entitled to my opinion like everyone else. The treatment of staff is not tittle-tattle its fact. We have a great team of staff both flying and ops based doing a good job without the proper support they need.

Suggesting we should quit because we don't like it is a bit defeatist. We should endeavour to make things better by a change of opinion and attitude. The company can then move forwards in a positive atmosphere. But for this to happen people who make the decisions need to be open to ideas and include their staff in the running of the company. We have a lot of people with a wealth of experience, let's use it and not let it slip through our fingers by staff quitting like you suggest they do.

If you are not employed at the moment I wish you luck with your search and hope it's not too long before your dream comes true. You too deserve to be treated fairly and with respect by your employer as befits your professional status. This is a right we should all be entitled too, including me!

P.S. Are you related to MOB by any chance?

Turbo Rick 20th October 2003 21:00

You what?

Ghostrider, your initials aren't MOB are they? ;)
That would be the only way anything you say makes sense.

Keep your rose tinted specs on, or maybe beer goggles would suit you better, no need to face reality then...

Most people in this excuse for a company are trying to get out, for the reasons Fred states, senior management will never listen to the pilots, if the FOD has to leave it says something does it not?

yachtpilot, your observations may be correct, and the reason is bad management, quite simple really. Once you get into an airline (if thats what you aspire to) you will find out for yourself. Nearly every pilot I have met in my not short career have wanted to do the right thing and make a success of the company, but mangement adhere to the principal of " beatings will continue until morale improves"! Wait and see matey, you will see I am right, unfortunetly...

in-2-wind 20th October 2003 21:06

a quick question,

will Emerald 'ONLY' consider type rated applicants, or is there any hope for the rest of us (even if it involves paying for a TR with them first)??

windy.
