If anyone is interested, crews are required by a British company in Ghana, one month on, one month off. I dont know the salary or any other details but can find out if anyone is interested.

Would that fit with what I was told a few weeks ago - that AJ had received enquiries from potential clients for work in Africa to replace Russian types currently in use?

I am not directly involved with the Ghana operation so I know very little about it. I was just asked if I knew any 748 pilots.

I understand they already have a 748 in Ghana and require pilots with time on type, and I dont think they need operations or other staff.

Whilst diving up at Capernwray, I mentioned to the owner that I knew of a company scrapping some aircraft.

A few phone calls later, it looks like we are going to have the largest sunken airframe to dive on in UK inland waters.

It will be very strange to see her under 20m of water, I'll post pic's of her sinking when it happens on my Facebook page.

Is that more eco-friendly than landfill? So much for the wrecks, what's happening with the JAV operation. JANOPS1 has been quiet of late. The website is still 'currently' seeking experienced aircrew, engineers and ops staff (but has been since it's been up). It's gone quieter than a morgue..

Had heard that the Kenyans were interested in one or two. They were advised that the a/c were beyond their "sell by date" as far as maint was concerned. Their reply ?

"Our engineers will come across and sort everything out"

Now correct me if I'm wrong but. Do we have some kind of international agreement that allows 748's to be exempt any maint checks. Or for their components to be signed off even as serv even if they are scrap.

Oops of course I'm wrong. Thats how Emerald used to work.

I don't fancy it myself but work is work if you are unwaged, and good luck to anyone who is prepared to go there to earn a crust.

OV got off very lightly compared to some of the other frames!!

With a 21% drop in freight traffic it is indeed a very tough and challengiing time for any freight operator,including BA who rely on freight to underwrite many of their routes.
For a relatively new Airline to break into the freight market must be particurlarly daunting and needs patience and flexibility,possibly with eventual investment in more fuel efficient and customer freindly aircraft type. The dear old HS748 is rapidly reaching its sell-by date and a modern replacement will be needed to carry the banner forward,
I sincerely wish Janes Aviation all the very best and hope that they do indeed survive the downturn,at least a grounded HS748 is not accrueing the charges that that say the ATP is.
These are tough times for major airlines and their are casualties yet to be identified,hopefully in the case of Janes Aviation a sleeping dog approach and a sympathetic bank will enable the Airline to spring back following the downturn.??
As a former employee of the Emerald Airways staff I will keep my fingers firmly crossed and despite the soothsayers of doom wish them eventual success,like the housing market it will eventually come back although historically the aviation cycle takes a little longer to catch up
