Well done Sir Stanley. I haven't seen one of those for about 20 years! It brings back memories of having a load of them in my suitcase when I left for far-flung parts in order to sell them!

Can anyone supply contact details for Janes and up to date info on G-OSOE, also has G-SOEI actualy made it out of the UK?

many thanks

Expressflight 17th Jul 2009 07:17

Try [email protected]

G-ASOE was parked at SEN yesterday along with G-AYIM. It was reported as being in an all white colours scheme, although I thought it had previously carried Janes titling.

I don't have any new information on G-SOEI.

Nearly There 17th Jul 2009 07:54

G-IM was the only one in Janes decals, G-OE is/was all white colour scheme.

Germstone 17th Jul 2009 18:18

G-SOEI/N748D is still parked at Blackpool as of today.

denys jones 17th Jul 2009 20:24

Thanks for that.

I'm interested in those two as I'm secretary of the Ferrymead Aeronautical Society here in CHC NZ. We hold Viscount ZK-BRF, and the noses of B170 ZK-CRK and Electra ZK-TEA. We want the noses off an F27 and an ex-Mt Cook 748 to go with those to give the whole NZ 1960s-1970s set.

IAP had promised us the nose of G-SOEI (ZK-DES to us) but the sale has blocked that (perhaps perhaps not?) and G-OSOE is ZK-MCF hence my questions.

Any follow-ups/help in this quest would be much appreciated from an NZ heritage perspective.

Just for all those who get misty eyed at the sight of the beautiful old bird, I am sat in the Radisson hotel in Dhaka, Bangladesh at 08:55z on Sunday 19th July and S2-AAX ex G-BGMO has just sailed majestically past my window into the blue skies above:{
still wearing the Emerald livery.....

horatio_b 25th Jul 2009 19:56

I understand that G-SOEI, the sole remaining airworthy 748 at Blackpool has been impounded. There has been no observed activity around the hangar for at least a week.

I also came across this interesting website with plenty of photos of the ex-Emerald 748s and ATPs

Interesting Horatio,

Impounded by who do you know?

As for there being no signs of activity, in his last eMail to me Steve Ferris of IAP Sydney said

"There are no aircraft left at Blackpool now and the facility is closed"

so that would make sense I guess.

Germstone 31st Jul 2009 00:51

EI/N748D has been impounded by the Airfield for non payment of rent on the Hangar according to the notices attached to the aircraft.

Sure I heard someone using the callsign "emerald" the other night (not "gemstone" but "emerald"). Something we should be told?

Hankers 8th Aug 2009 21:29

That callsign is used by a G550.

Well spotted Sir. Stan . The ATP for auction - is that the odd one with the 12 volt electrical system that no one has any spares for. ?

Expressflight 17th Aug 2009 14:59

N748D (ex G-SOEI) arrived SEN this afternoon.

Spanner748 17th Sep 2009 13:54

Well, posting this one in a hurry. I read almost all the postings - some sad but encouraging. I would like to inform all of you that if you are still interested to take 748 up you might get a last chance to do that soon. Training captains shall be served first along with line captains :) good luck mates. hope to read you all here again ...

Anything happening or has the reputation of its' previous incarnation finally done for it?

xtypeman 25th Nov 2009 00:51

Noticed on CAA web site official record no2 that operating licence suspended for three months at operators request.

Nearly There 11th Dec 2009 13:14

Hope this maybe of use to someone.

Unsurprisingly, demise looking permanent now:

A brave attempt, but ultimately doomed.
