Ilyushin IL76 Operators to be under great scrutiny ?

Have heard that Ilyushin Design Bureau have or are about to issue a list of airframes that are being maintained to an approved Mx program - this hopefully will give a lot of Civil Aviation authorities a tool to check the legality of the operators that apply to operate flights especially those fifth freedom operations. Hope this will also mean that the Aid agencies such as the United Nations(UN)/World Food Program(WFP) and the large logistics companies will start using legitimate operators rather than using the cheapest option and feeding the cowboys that bring our industry into such disrepute. It would be nice if a respectable journalist was to pick-up on this story line and to ask some awkward questions of the UN/WFP/Dyncorp/US Government as to why they persist in using this type of operator. Hopefully Civil Aviation authorities such as the UAE GCAA will be brave enough to look at banning those operators that can not show that they have put money into the maintenance/prolongation program that is offered by Ilyushin - The prolongation program costs around USD 3.5 Million per aircraft and involves downtime of at least 6 months...Respectable carriers such as Maximus Air Cargo have put two aircraft through the program with third due to go to Russia soon - of course operators that comply with the Mx program can not compete with the cowboys on charter rates, but at least they can sleep at night knowing that their aircraft are maintained to the highest standard and that their crews are not pressured to exceed any weight restrictions - people's life's are worth more than a few extra dollars profit on a charter...
hopefully the big corporations and Aid agencies will also take note.

UAE were brave enought to ban all the AN12 in UAE, i am sure they wont hesitate to ban the dodgy IL76 operators, and judging by some of there climb rates of some IL76 out of the UAE airports , its long over due.

Is it me or has there been a sharp spike in Il-76 and An-12 crashes of late...

I agree with regards to the IL76 carriers. Good carriers of which there are many should have nothing to fear. The UAE banning the AN12 was a step in right direction but a blanket ban is plain daft. Aircraft crashing has nothing to do with the acft type. It has everything to do with maintenance and the various long term mtce planning...corrosion etc.. The UAE should have insisted on seeing every AN12 operating in / out of the UAE maintenance paperwork, history etc......due to their laziness they decided upon a blanket ban. Its not fair on the good operators.

There are plenty of 747 Classics Freighters / Conversions flying around 30 + years old. Nothing wrong with them.....because they adhere to all requirements for maintenance.

If I am not mistaken.......the THY B737 prang at AMS.....the acft was a few months old. It was Human Error.

Apologies for banging on but it makes me laugh when some African countries forbid anything over 20 years.....again just laziness on their side.

Lately I have been hearing of many Boeing crashes and nobody is asking to ban them. A plane is a plane. Is how you operate it? I think all the IL are cheaper to operate and we all need more jobs, but this is not a fair way of doing it.

Flying Mechanic, Rum Baba, and XpressOne, sorry to burst your bubble.

More so-called western manufactured aircraft crash than Russian one's, and at that very recent or even new one's. Perhaps Boeing should then also be banned outright by all countries till such time operators can prove their maintenance and compliance.

There are as many "western" wrecks flying as there are Russian. Bet you penny to pound of sh!t next crash will prove this.

And for the benefit of the un-informed, An-12's that have been scrutinised by the UAE authorities are no longer banned in the UAE.

Drop your dramatic search for sensationalism and get on with your flying, for the armchair specialists suggest you sit back, relax, and change the channel to get a better perspective!

Don't Ilyushin and Antonov already produce lists of airframes that are properly maintained or, XpressOne, do you mean that Ilyushin is going to freely release it to help the cause of driving out the cowboys?
