Question Does anyone know anything about the cargo market?

Why don't you hear much about the cargo market?

Is it that it is so small that it is'nt spoken about much, or does everybody only want to fly if they have hostesses <img src="wink.gif" border="0"> .

I mean I don't think that cargo is too scared to fly after Sept 11th is it?

Are there jobs in this sector, have they been affected, is it too small to matter.

I for one would happily fly Tom Cruises Cargo plane full of dog sh!t out of Hong Kong for a first job!

Interested to know any facts, opinions or rumours,

Gaz

Well you never hear much about Freighters because they're not "sexy" or "newsworthy" enough. How many serious accidents do you ever hear about on CNN/BBC etc etc. Very few. Why? because there are only a couple of crewmembers on board (ok maybe a courier on the odd occasion). If a pax aircraft does something like an RTO, the news is full of it.. .The cargo market is doing fine right now. As you said, Sept 11 didn't scare the freight. We have been affected by a general economic slowdown, though this was already evident at the beginning of last year. Low yields/overcapacity/high fuel prices mixed with the aforementioned slowdown created problems for some. We made a profit last year, which is better than many can say.. .Right now things are improving. We've had the post Christmas lull, Chinese New Year has also passed. Our company for one is flying full.. .rgds

Hi Gazeem,

Market is doing well, just not on pprune much as still a minority of flying work is cargo. There's a popular misconception that it is easier to get a freight job than a passenger job. Cargo operators do not have lower standards when it come to hiring - take a look at the Cargolux threads to see what I mean.

Give me a call sometime. You do know me, I started you off on your IMC rating!
