Post Hiring prospects at Cargolux? Any news?

Just curious about Cargolux - have they been hiring recently and, if not, will they be hiring soon?

Any current Cargolux pilots want to comment on current morale, conditions and what it is like to fly the 747-400?

. .Are there any/many Americans currently flying for Cargolux?

. .Cheers

Hiring has slowed to just about zero. As far as I'm aware, we're now pretty much complete crew-wise. . .Morale/conditions: since you asked for pilot comments, will refrain from answering.. .Americans: yes, a few.

It appears that there is a bit of hiring this year. I know of three people that have been called for the first stage assessment (aptitude/psycometric/medical tests), but all three have B747-400 type ratings. And all three (self included) failed this first stage!

What I heard so far from Cargolux, I have to think that it is a really nice company. Better than CX. Not with the salary but the working conditions and the people you work with are much better than at Cathay. That´s my personal opinion!

When the jobs start to rise again what are the minima to get a job with Cargo Lux, how many years until upgrading?

Thanx

fo around 4000 and up euro net,cpt 6000 and up. .BUT: our latest rosters are contiously planned to the minimum, that means you are looking at only 9 off-days/per 28 days! in addition plan to be away from home up to 18 days in a row,not to mention long positionings(up to 20 hours),double sector flying and decreasing layover time(9hrs flight at night from hong kong, 13 hours in abu dabi rest, then home...)if you don´t live in lux you need about 3 to 4 travel days/month,so that means a total of 6 or 7 days at home in a month!!!. . i DON`T like it at clx, i wish i never had changed company.this is my personal comment,of course. .colleagues are great, though.

Question

Do those salary figures include flight duty pay, surely not if you're away that much?

Thank you guys for the information!

Yes, I heard that they changend the hiring requirements lately!

I was wondering because at CLX there are a lot Tyrolean Dash 8 pilots around.

Have they been coming to CLX with as less as 1500 hours?

I can imagine that they need to be F/O for years and years?

But I´m still locking forward to work for CLX on day!

I would love to get in touch with some CARGOLUX drivers.. .I am a cargo captain, flying the 146, and my company may certainly quit the cargo business at the end of the year.. .I want to stay on that industry.. .Please email me.... .If Pitcairn could, I would appreciate.. .best regards

INOP - I agree with you totally. Unless one wants to live in LUX...oops..correction.. unless YOUR FAMILY wants to live in LUX (you're never home anyway) CLX is ok to work for. But most guys do not want to live there, which is entirely understandable , so with adding a commute, etc. it is not worthwhile to damage your family life for 4000-6000 euro. The colleagues are great pretty much across the board.

I'm afraid I don't have too much sympathy. You surely knew that you either had to live in LUX (I like it here, have the grand total of 7KM to drive to the airport) or commute. So you choose to commute and then moan about it??? Come on...

Cargorat2 - I don't think it was meant as a compaint, (thus, no sympathy necessary) but more to to show, what the reality is like.

To live in LUX, go to work every day, and being able to engage in family matters after work is a slightly different scenario, than being away for 16-20 days/month, leaving the family in a place they just happen not to like that much.

Some initially move their families to LUX and learn, that LUX is not the place for them. There is nothing wrong with that, is there ???

Commuting then becomes a compromise between work and family life (..and they sweat montly, to see whether their 9 days off in a block have been granted).

Overall not an easy situation, as Crew Schedulers generally try very hard to accomodate everybody..., but it is obviously not possible to grant everybody's wishes. A good bidding system would certainly help, though.

I think , CLX is a great place to work for as pilot if your family likes LUX. If not, you may sooner or later have to make the tough decision: Job or Family.

Avius, my reply was more directed to INOP. . . [quote]i DON`T like it at clx, i wish i never had changed company

. .If you don't like it...I'm sure you can guess the rest.. .Anyway, everyone is entitled to their opinions, and I certainly don't want to start any kind of fight here. We are colleagues after all. My 2c worth: If top management could sort itself out and give us some kind of direction, we'd all be a bit happier. Morale now is terrible, company-wide.. .Cheers to all.. .edited for naff spelling

Basically.... .if you work for Cathay and can't bear asiatic faces,. .if you work for Air Mauritius and can't stand island life and palm trees,. .if you work for Emirates and hate muslim people,. .if you work for CargoLux and don't like german accent, european green country and want London to be in Luxemburg with Riviera beaches...

so yes, life can be difficult

I used to work in an italian company, and some fellow foreign crew members did positively hate the italians - so two ways: remove the locals from their country, or...

Hello Pitcairn

I do have a question to you, I did apply in summer 2000 and had also an interview which went fine and CLX sent me to an Doc in Saarlouis / Germany for an Psycho-Metric Test and a fiscal check, on the end I had also an personnel chat with the Doc in which he sad to me that the results were fine and a positive recommendation would be issued from his office. After a couple weeks I got an letter from CLX saying that the test with the Doc was negative and …. How ever I called the Doc and asked if it was a mix up with the paperwork and he again sad to me that he sent a recommendation to CLX, after that I called Mrs. S..... asking what’s the matter and telling her what the Doc sad to me and her answer was that I may have understand him wrong and that it was negative results. Doc S.... and myself are both Germans, I don’t think that understood him wrong. I did ask an F/O of CLX if he could check what’s happened with me, but there was no answer. Last year in summer I wrote a letter to CLX, but also no reply. . .Can you help on this, I’m still interested in a long-term career with CLX but I do not understand the position of CLX, if they say that they don’t like my face that’s OK, but say it.

Any help? Thanks. .

-200, I'm surprised that Institut fur Beitriebs und Flugmedizin (IBF) at Saarlouis told you that you would be recommended at the final interview with Dr S..... I was told prior to the selection day at Saarlouis that I would not be told the result on the day. And in the final interview, this fact was re-iterated. It was also made clear to me that although IBF may make a positive reccommendation, the final decision would be Cargolux's.

Thumbs up

Dan,

that the final decision is with CLX is fine, but they should say real reason and don’t tell any excuse. Everybody who apply and go for checks puts time and effort in it and should be treated with respect.. .That Doc S.... would issued a positive recommendation was more a personnel thing, there was nothing official on it, but I do believe him that he mean it what he sad.

. .Pitcairn,

you may be right and I should write a letter again even this already long time ago. I also don’t believe that Doc S.... did lie, I always had the impression that there was a mix up with the papers, that is the only explanation I would have. . .
