MK Airlines to become British Global??
Was searching through the U.S. DOT website and came across some interesting information. MK Airlines has applied to provide service from
Manston and Prestwick to Huntsville, AL and Miami, FL under the name
of British Global Airlines. Is the company changing its name for everything,
or just for this route application?, and does this have anything to do with
avoiding bad publicity for the MK name?

MK are currently advertising for staff under the name of British Global Airlines, so I guess they are planning to drop the MK name sooner rather than later. Maybe they are also behind the mystery purchase of DAS to get the facility at Manston??

I hear constant rumours they have 3 x B747F on ground being robbed of parts in order to support the fleet. It did`nt sound like all was well with MK so i`m surprised to hear of this new venture.

Just out of interest how many of MK's operating crew are British passport holders/citizens ?
It looks to me to be a rebranding in line with the registration of their aircraft onto the UK register.

I don't think that the crews nationality or indeed their passport holding makes any relevance to their flying standards / company standards.
They are a UK G- registered airline and like all other UK registered airlines are subject to the same level of regulation from the CAA as anyone else. It is a common fact that MK buy B747's and use them for spares. The Air Gabon at CDG that was written off and the Air Madagascar sitting in Chatereux are two that come to mind. It makes financial sense as long the the parts are certified and logged as per the company MEL and maintenance faciliy (MK's is EASA 145 approved at Filton).
Since the Halifax crash MK has had to bring itself into line and pull its socks up, I think they have done this, if they are changing their brand then good luck to them.

G-MKHA the first of the ex China B747's is ferrying Peking - Bristol filton today.
Further more N748CK is still at Bristol to possiblby become G-MKLA.
3 x B747-200F ex B- reg to be delivered as well.

So do they only have 747 now the 8's are definetely gone? The MK website says they still have 55 and 62 series.
But if you look at the bottom of there site it still says 2002 so its not been update for ages.
I see that MK also own a little R44II

Are there any outward signs of the change from MK to BGA??
Are any aircraft opeating with BGA titles?? any change in signage
at the main offices??? What is the latest on the rumor that MK is
talking with a Major airline about operating services on their behalf
from Manston??

MK signed some sort of Memorandum of Understanding (?) back in 2005 with OST and the town council and took out a 30 year lease on their hub and made various other undertakings. Since then trading conditions have changed considerably, could a name change get around this agreement with OST?

Mk Name Change
The brand MK may have had its ups and downs but I would prefer to see it remain. Mike Kruger is a complete gentleman who deserves every success. If he has an R44 for hoping accross to Manston thats great .. I expect it will be an Augusta before too long ..
