yes it would certainly be good to see the DC.10's back in the air once more and doing the business they were built for . Then they will be able to give the so called Zimbabwe flag of convenience carrier( for how long we shall see ) a run for their money, as they seemed to do quite well out of the demise of DAS AIR both on the routes and an increase of aircraft to their fleet, I wonder how long it will be before the EEC put a spanner into their operation......

yes i agree it did seem rather suspicious that it always seemed to be the same carrier receiving the SAFA inspections on arrival into ams and its dutch counter-part having a care free existence thats obviously what they meant by the europe-africa fair trade agreement.

Yes I feel sorry for most of the ex employees of said airline but guess most would have others jobs by now. No better time to be looking for work as if you cant find a job in this climate you will possibly never get another flying position.
Would be nice to see the 10's up and running too.
No sympathy for the R's what so ever. We all know how that airline was financed in the earlier days. What goes around comes around.

Ex dog - you are right - the **** started with Hollandic and German CAA, but such could have solved easily.
The rest of the story how they got banned is one were reality is more stupid than fiction.
After the trouble Holland and Germany made, both Das and the Ugandan CAA had to give reason of the observed failures as well as the corrective measurements they would take.
In the multimedia/cyber-age we have come, the Europeans adressed a SNAILMAIL letter ( by ordinary post) to the PO box of Das and Ugandan CAA, but those had changed, so actually neither Das, neither the Ugandan CAA got the letter. No e-mail, SITA or fax were sent, neither a reminder.
Conclusion : Due to the unwillness of both Das and Ugandan CAA to reply on time to the EU, they just got blacklisted, really too stupid to be truth.
But how could the Ugandans reply to something they never received ?????? and so an active airline was condamned to hungerstrike which led to its final fate.

evening ex dog... no still in situ in hangar at mse..a/c is still waiting for parts to come in so that they can be taken down to jkt for its c.check.

I see there is a DC10 in DAS colours remotely parked at Vatry in the area usually reserved for hulks, has it been bought by Avient as a "xmas tree" ??
The United Arabian DC8 that Avient were marketing is also parked next to it, is it awaiting sale or just on its way out ?

I understand 5X-JOS has been brought for spares not as another flying machine, there are now plenty of spares avble as Gemini air cargo have just parked up 4 DC.10's in the desert obviously heavy checks are now becoming very expensive shame for the crews though especially load masters

sorry to hear about the guys at TMW especially the apprentices as it seems they hadn't finished there "time" yet, was it just the engine shop or the component hangers as well (if they got set up) i had left by then, there is a lot of engine jobs out there, but you'll need to travel!!! Best of luck anyway

Uganda CAA & DAS
The Sunday Vision newspaper (March 15th) has run an article stating that the UGCAA are being questioned about financial support of DAS - anybody know anything more about that?

yes that's very pleasing to see, as they were all good professional men who always seemed to go that extra mile for the company, its a sad shame the way things turned out, their new company will be all the better for that.

GMSmech - it was across the board. TCW and Tamro also took a hit, along with some of the office staff and all the facillities personnel. JT-3 as well.
A lot of great guys gone at a stroke. I've heard though that some of the apprentices (six) managed to get into Marshall's.
The good news is that we have secured a contract with a major US carrier
(40 plus aircraft) B757 & DC-10. Here's to the future.
One thing's for sure, with the current looming economic crisis, it's going to be a rough ride for quite some time to come.
(My apologies to the DAS guys for posting this reply here).
