Polar air cargo vs. Netjets

I've been hired by polar and Netjets. Any suggestions on what job to take?

It's only about whether you want to be a truck driver or a taxi driver.

What's the pay comparison?

What airplane will you fly at Netjets? Intl or domestic? What kind of schedule?

If the proposed crew merger happens, your gonna be first on the hit list when Atlas starts parking its classics next year and/or when Emirates starts running their own AC and handing back ACMI ships. Ya also might want to do some research on the Stanstead base, ie transport and housing costs cause thats probably where you'll end up. But in the meantime, Cato's training academy is not a bad place to get a free type, just don't shut the door on the other jobs. (-;

The problem with Polar is the flux of the union situation. It all depends who you listen to when making a decision. The previous post on this thread is obviously an Atlas crewmember take and is in no way certain. If you talk to a Polaroid, his take will be just the oppsoite and also is in no way certain. Then there is DHL and no one really know where that is going.
As for the sheer enjoyment, there is nothing batter than slinging big iron around the world. So however you roll the dice, I hope is comes up sevens for you.

I fly in EU, but still .... Flew the 727, 757 and 767 in Pax and Cargo version. Now with NJE on C560 - overall much better lifestyle - hardly any late flying, no Jetlag, but Cessna compared to Boeing ..............
Seats are not comfy, Cockpitt ( no flightdeck here ) are very cramped and whole Airplane feels very Flimsy, but still NJE is the better for now.

PilotGeek:
From what I have read and heard from guys with buddies at NetJets, NetJ sounds like it is probably a really good choice, not just based upon comparative pay at airlinepilotpay.com or whatever.

1) They appear to work long duty periods, but cause less damage to your
immune system compared to trans-oceanic and/or all-night flying, plus there seems to be a very good commute/deadheading policy.
2) Fractional jet companies are grabbing flying from the passenger airlines.
3) NetJets, the best fractional, has ordered lots of aircraft and appear to have a much more secure future than many US passenger airlines (or some cargo airlines?). The pilot seem to work many very long days with Part 135 ops, but so do so many Part 121 flightcrews. But we don't "put the plane to bed" other than the 'securing checklist'.

4) Isolating the 'heavy-metal'/large aircraft 'ego factor' helps one make a better long-term decision. If one feels lousy when Starting (!) a long duty period, where is the oft-touted heavy 'glamour 'factor', not just when delaying for two days waiting for greasy freight containers to arrive, when these could be your extra 1 or 2 days off at home?

Some Kallita guys did not begin their EWR-AMS flights until AFTER midnight-
no thank you.
And speaking of...my wife and I went downstairs (last May) in a hotel at AMS in order to find a sandwich (the euro/dollar conversion was far too expensive there for the last night on vacation), and the very first comments I overheard as we strolled into the bar were from a Kallita pilot about mainline narrowbody versus RJ flying. His words instantly grabbed my full attention! He was furloughed at my company years ago and was deciding whether to return when recalled.

I have flown at Polar and I have done the corporate route as well, at Polar we were treated like the red headed step child and in corporate flying we were treated like servants who could also fly a plane. If I had to make a choice between the two I would go with Polar. Lots of union issues yet to be resolved but depending on how much time you have left in your aviation career you would find Polar to be acceptable while waiting for UPS or FEDEX to call Or, Polar could actually turn around and be a good place to work again. I would not hold my breath waiting for the latter.
Good luck in decision.

I too, am interested in some info about Polar, if you wouldn't mind adding to this thread:

How long is training?

Is it all in Miami?

When do health benefits start?

Uniform provided or must be bought?

Uniform color (black or blue)?

Do you carry Jepps or are they on the aircraft?

Headsets?

What are overnights like?

Life on reserve?

Thanks a bunch, I appreciate your help.

What do you mean by 3 weeks at a time? If you're talking about Polar, you don't know what you're talking about.
