Lufthansa have shown heavy interest among others.

I believe this will become the definitive long-haul freighter. The ability to carry 100 tonnes non-stop between Far East and Europe at B777 levels of fuel burn is awesome.

Lufthansa phase out the 747 and will switch to a full MD11 fleet.
They have no interest for the 777F as far as I know.

I was always told that the low floor limits on the 777 made a freighter version a difficult proposition. I wonder what changed...? (Apart from a -F floor as on the 747).

What will this do the future of the B744F: only 10 tonnes less payload over greater range at much lower fuel burn? And what impact will it have on the market for the B744SF?

Not all carriers are weight limited; some are volume limited and the 744 still offers more room. Furthermore, a factory fresh 744 freighter comes with a nose-door, which CR2 will tell you is the best thing since sliced bread for loading loooooong pieces.

I would venture the estimate that a converted 744SF will be cheaper than a brand new 777F, which may further justify its continued existance. List price for a 777 in pax configuration is in the 150-170 million USD range; a freighter would probably be a tad more expensive (as the 744F is a tad more expensive than a pax 744).

LHC have indeed expressed an interest in the 777F, and I suppose it is not outside the realms of possibility to see LHC as a launch costumer. They may add the 777s to increase capacity, or they may ditch the MD11s and go pure 777, or they may get 777s to replace the 742s transferrred to and operated by AAI.

Emirates have also expressed an interest in the 777F, to feed their A380 Freighters. UPS would probably also be a prospect, to replace their aging 747 classics, and there are bound to be many more operators that could replace their classic whales too.

FFF, you got that right NCD ops do depend on the type of business you're in though. Not everyone needs them. We certainly do!

Agree with what you have to say. Guess a 744SF will be half the price of a new 777F.

Our outfit has been looking at a 777F for a while, fuel burn etc.

I must admit to being suprised at the 3m high pallets. Another good kick in the teeth for that arrogant crowd at Airbus who say such things are not necessary (A380). That's a whole issue for itself which I think has been done to death here in the past.

What impressed me most from the figures in the article above is the volum: 27 main deck pallets, plus the belly, makes for a decent amount of space when you consider the performance economics of the aircraft.

Anyone care to comment on the feasability of -300F? Extra volume for not much less payload....?

Future of 400F will be intersting. Not sure NCD alone will justify further sales. It will have to be a payload & volume thing I suspect, or it days are numbered. But surely converted B744's are the way to go now? Half price of a B777F for slightly better performance...

Launch Customer

I have it on good authority that EVA will be announcing a substantial order to compliment their 777 pax order. Mad Dogs will stay for a while but I’m lead to believe that there may be other plans for them too

Go the 777F
