CKS 74F looses engine

I'm told that Kalitta lost an engine(as in, departed pylon and headed for earth) over Michigan last night. Details I was given are CKS825 from ANC to JFK with a stop in ORD. Aircraft diverted to DTW and all is well.

A fine job and a well deserved drink for all on board I'd say.

Exclamation Kalitta Air Lost an Engine

Cargo plane lands safely in Detroit after losing engine
October 21, 2004, 3:56 AM

ROMULUS, Mich. (AP) -- A cargo plane from Chicago landed safely at Detroit Metropolitan Airport early Thursday after losing an engine somewhere over Michigan.

Federal Aviation Administration officials in Chicago say a Kalitta Air jet took off from O'Hare International Airport late Wednesday. It was bound for New York's Kennedy International Airport when it reported mechanical problems with one of its engines.

The Boeing 741-R was diverted to Detroit Metro in Romulus, where it landed without incident. No one was injured.

After the landing, officials discovered the engine was not just malfunctioning but was completely gone.

FAA officials say Michigan authorities are searching for the engine.

Something similar happened over Amsterdam called ''the Bijlmer disaster''.
An El AL 747 lost two of its engines on one side loosing also hydrolics. Crashed into two flats.
I believe after this happend the pylons of the engines on all 747's with these kind of engines had to be inspected or modified.
Maybe this one was skipped.
I would like to know what the NTSB has to say about this.
