Delta hiring

Two good friends here at CX just got hired with Delta in the last few weeks. These are NOT the top end skippers they are hoping bail, but cheap, vital mid range FO's bailing out. Looks like some decisions need to be made soon either to start treating their crew with respect in regards to all areas of employment, pay, seniority, rostering, contractual integrity, or they literally will not have an airline. Soon.

On the bright side for CX, is that the folks leaving are not giving their three months, so that's good solid income for CX on a regular basis. 😂

Freehills 15th January 2018 05:33

Delta just announced profits of 5.5 billion US, and profit share of 1 billion US... Smart move

Average Fool 15th January 2018 07:14

If my maths are correct that equates to 4000HKD or half months salary. Whichever is less.

raven11 15th January 2018 09:53

Average...
I assume that your calculations factor in no bonuses for captains...?

poydras 15th January 2018 10:17

I reckon 7-12 years seniority FO leaving. Some Cat D some don’t want to go to HK but all fed up with this circus

positionalpor 23rd January 2018 05:27

When asked why leaving Cx after 13 years seniority, the FO answer was: Cathay isn’t going anywhere. Early January.

crwkunt roll 24th January 2018 00:43

Seems more like he wasn't going anywhere, Cat D'd?

cxorcist 24th January 2018 01:17

That’s a big assumption. Perhaps he was an FO on a base and unwilling to relocate to HK. Some CX pilots have spent their entire career on a base, both as FO and CN. That’s becoming increasingly difficult as bases are being allowed to wither on the vine.

Captain Dart 24th January 2018 01:28

He or she is right.

Bases: not going anywhere
HKIA: not going anywhere unless there are drastic changes to the airspace
CX conditions of service and salaries: not going anywhere
Rostering;part time rosters, reverse/commuting rosters: not going anywhere

Feel free to add to the list.

positionalpor 24th January 2018 12:47

Yes, he is on the base.

DropKnee 24th January 2018 16:08

Cat D at one point was assigned to pilots who were clearly lacking in skills. You could watch how they operate and it was clear. Now it’s assigned based on a multitude of reasons. Some even being political.
If a pilot who has spent 13-14 years flying the line and passing all their checks. There is no reason to not assign them a course. To not, is a failure of the training system.
I find that the enforcement of what is “standard” is very subjective. One checker gives you a 4 and another gives you a 2. I am frequently frustrated by this. Having flown for a few Airlines. This is the first one that I consistently ask, what the hell do they want?

What an ignorant statement.....

It's simple. They want you to caress their over inflated egos. You have to remember that most were picked from the bottom of the barrel, and all of a sudden feel superior due to their title.

There are however a few good ones with no chip on their shoulders and are extremely fair with nothing to prove.

cxorcist 25th January 2018 01:26

100% correct. I don’t know why the incessant vertical head nod, oh I see, and let me write that down is so hard for some guys to fake. Just pretend you really respect them. It’s not like you have to fly with them everyday.

Australians.

I dread the day the training ban stops. A lot of brand new Full of It Aussie Captains who will be jumping at the chance to join training. Many think they are trainers already - imparting "knowledge" after just 5 minutes in the seat....most of it wrong

Arfur Dent 25th January 2018 08:11

As an ex Trainer, I always loved to do "Command Training". First rule was "Let's enjoy this process". Next was "We'll spend a couple of hours each night of a Land Away in the books prior to going to the bar". Then, "I won't tell as long as you learn from any mistakes".Finally, - see Rule !.
All my guys passed and made excellent Skippers.

Freehills 25th January 2018 08:17

Arfur,

Don't worry, they probably all thought you were an old fart with a stick up your butt behind your back anyway. :)

slowjet 25th January 2018 10:42

Arfur, many of us, out there, just like you.We understand the term "training" rather than "testing". We feel that our training departments are part of a service industry where, in the case of the dreaded word "failures", we look at ourselves rather than the trainee. However, in my last company, we were swamped by the testers. Most Training captains looked the same. They had hunched up shoulders and swept back foreheads. There was a reason. If you asked THEM a question, they would hunch up their shoulders. When you told THEM the answer, they would smack their own foreheads.

I would assume you're looking for an angry response from an Aussie.

You're getting a considered response from someone else. It's ignorant to generalize Sir and you come across like a Knob.
