@curtain rod

Finally
Someone gets it!!!

"This is an HKG company, no matter how the "crewing" companies are arranged: The HQ is in HKG..."

"Nobody needs a base. Nobody needs to commute. Those are preferences and choices"

"And the company has already figured out that the problems, costs and inflexibility caused by having pilots on bases does not outweigh the cost and advantages of having all pilots in HKG. Before taxes, before lawsuits, before FRMS, before labour laws applied, before foreign governments and courts had jurisdiction...sure, it all made sense. But, no more."

Exactly it's all become too hard. Love it when I talk to kiwi guys saying "I'm waiting for a base update"...it's not coming they are working away from bases!

After recent events, it would be foolish for anyone on a base to think their bases and basing companies won't be shut down completely at the drop of a hat. It's already happened, and now it's happening within a phony "basing company."

Agree

cxorcist 9th May 2014 20:37

Rod,

I agree with most of what you write. However, I disagree with your take on bases. I actually think that bases save the company heaps of money, both in terms of expat allowances and divide & conquer industrial tactics. The problem is that the bases are so poorly managed and administrated. This company is stuck in the 1900s with respect to IT and navigating international laws. It is almost as if they expect the British Navy to get involved every time they get in the pooh with foreign governments. Colonialism, like slavery, is a difficult institution to let go.

cxorcist 9th May 2014 21:55

... But most guys on bases would be on expat terms, not HKPA. Not so for the MAN captains assuming they don't downgrade to FO in HKG. The real answers will be found after the US goes on-shore, or doesn't. That is where the most potential exists for new basing slots. If they don't materialize, we will have our answer wrt the future of bases.

Well said Curtain man! See my comments regarding Manchester.

@canonball

Sorry my kids would be less concerned about me being without a job and standing up to a bully...be it a person or a corporation. There is no shame in sacking...far too many people lose their jobs to make a managers bonus these days to be about shame. If you believe being sacked is shameful.....you belong in the dinosaurs age mate.

@anotherday,

U made that choice to commute....dont like it leave. But dont let your commute requirements dictate what the goal is here to make the company negotiate in good faith be it basings payrise AFTLs etc. your letting your PARTICULAR life circumstance of your CHOOSING be part of the argument with the company and directly undermines the pilots goal.

Scoreboard 12th May 2014 17:37

And to drag it back to topic this said f/o who worked on leave was probably thinking this will brown nose him thru command selection since he did cause a lot of head ache and drama with lawyers etc a year ago

Oasis 12th May 2014 23:13

I don't think he needed to brown nose to anybody.
It was just a crapload of cash, from what I understand.
To be perfectly honest, I am on the fence about whether this person acted wrong or not.

If there's no CC, let people do what they want. No need to do the blame/shame game.

Oasis 13th May 2014 01:45

I heard he was well into overtime hrs, maybe it was a load of bollucks, dunno.

744drv 13th May 2014 01:53

If he was well into overtime CC would have been victimising some other weak minded soul.

8888 13th May 2014 02:31

If it's so important make it an AOA directive to not work G days. If not, then it's simply one persons personal preference over an others.

12wheeler 13th May 2014 03:10

I hope he was doing it for the money. If he was just trying to help the company out, then God saves us all!

Oasis 13th May 2014 03:12

That's a good point, Sydney man.

letsfly75 13th May 2014 03:37

We all need to keep coming up with justification for doing the wrong thing. Then we can all work together to come up with new complaints about how we're treated.

zulapels 13th May 2014 10:36

One man army !

Today is another good day to do 100 % CC. There is a real shortage of crew today. Really good to see many SO's being organized in their CC mission.
RH deserves to have an exit like PH for creating this misery and despair by doing nothing and being the creator of HKPA.

treboryelk 13th May 2014 11:23

Every day is a good day for 100% CC.

The flights that still need pilots over the coming two weeks are numerous.

The FUB 13th May 2014 11:26

With all the poor weather, take CFP fuel, divert, wait for a new slot, run out of duty hours, go to hotel. Its not rocket science, they will soon see the big picture.

hongkongpilot 14th May 2014 03:19

Don't call ready until all doors closed !
:hmm:

BalusKaptan 8th Jun 2014 07:31

The hunt is on also to find two CNs for ANC flights tonight.

Frogman1484 8th Jun 2014 21:47

I believe some Syd flights have been cancelled due to no captains.
