seated 1 hour before landing

So now another PA 1 hour out! It goes on and on!

BEKOL Magic 2nd Jan 2010 14:59

I suppose with nutters like the Nigerian around these rules may be necessary as a temporary measure.

Insha'Allah no more like him (on a US watch list) will get onto a plane anytime soon

Tornado Ali 2nd Jan 2010 15:56

Simple answer: hire ex-Israeli airline security personnel. They have NO problem profiling. The safety record of El-Al is impeccable. We are going to lose several airliners before the disability of political correctness is eradicated. :ugh:

Paradise Lost 2nd Jan 2010 16:43

Where are we?

Presumably we will be required to turn off all GPS/IRS/V-DMEs when entering US airspace, so we don't know where we are either?
If pre-boarding security is more stringent for crews than pax, logically we should be more uncertain of position than them too!

nitpicker330 3rd Jan 2010 03:33

oops I think someone forgot to lock the door at the Kowloon hospital Psyc ward.....:D

Bwatchful 3rd Jan 2010 04:20

Nitpicker: to whom or what are you referring to?

bigjames 3rd Jan 2010 22:48

and now, back to the scheduled program

does anyone know if cx has publically stated what their policy on this airshow issue is? is it still a system wide ban?

Captain Dart 4th Jan 2010 08:04

The silence is still deafening. Airshow disabled on my latest regional flight from base; no Company information anywhere and the ISM had no information either. The only 'heads up' after days off was from good old PPRUNE; PPRUNE-ers, if not for you I would have told several hundred passengers that they could 'refer to the Airshow presentation' as usual during the 'welcome aboard' announcement. Maybe Before Flight Duties should include a check of the PPRUNE forums.

Our esteemed leaders must be busy composing more 'correct wearing of uniform' NTC's.

gobbledock 4th Jan 2010 10:52

Option

Captain dart, perhaps they could put 'iron on transfers' upon those neatly pressed handsome shirts, displaying things like route maps, topographical data, places of interest etc. The Crew could even change shirts every half hour or so, displaying more exciting 'non security breaching tripe' ?

On the beach 4th Jan 2010 23:18

The AIRSHOW was working fine today on the flight into Toronto. It even showed Detroit. Mind you I was flying on Air Canada!

On the beach :ok:

ISD (Pom) put out a notice recently. I saw one which stated that ENG was in the process of reactivating the airshows and Satphones. Apparently these were disabled. Nice of FOPS to let us know....
I cannot believe the lack of communication from FOPS regarding this. It is inexcusable.

AsiaMiles 5th Jan 2010 09:33

You are not correct, there has been a Company Notam since the 26th of December.

Richard Coomey 5th Jan 2010 10:14

Airshow

I was on the CX250 (LHR-HKG) on Jan 1st - Airshow was working fine although the estimated arrival time on Airshow compared to that displayed on the window on the top right of the IFE screen (and on the handest) was out of sync by about 1/2 hour or so.
Airshow was correct by the way.
I guess they must be fed from diffrerent sources ?

This is all airlines , pitty as I really enjoyed the info
Absolute and complete rubbish.
I paxed back home on Royal Jordanian to ORD yestersay, and the airshow was in full operation...for the entire flight.

ALL foreign airlines operating scheduled services to the USA must be certificated in accordance with 14CFR129, which provide for specific regulation for said foreign air carriers for continued ops.
IF the FAA said 'off with the map', the map goes OFF, and there is nothing the airline can do about it, if they want to continue ops to the USA.
Don't like it...fly somewhere else..

bigjames 5th Jan 2010 12:40

Yes that is fine 411A but still a mystery to many within cx as to why the map was disabled on intra asian regional flights on aircraft that never go near the usa. however, things seem to be returning to normal after a panicky initial few days...

AsiaMiles 5th Jan 2010 13:05

The HAECO Engineer explained it to me, Airshow is part of the integrated IFE system and can't just be turned on and off as required but has to be disabled behind the VCC. The job takes about 3 to 4 hours. Aircraft that normally go to the US were targeted as the aircraft that would have the Airshow disabled. Now that the US permits Airshow, the wiring is being reconnected.

This whole business was a knee-jerk reaction by...yes...her (otherwise known as a him behind closed doors)...Janet Napolitano, the totally useless piece of cr*p that is the 'director' of Homeland 'Security'
Ms Napolitano was (thankfully, now the -ex) governor of Arizona, and before that, a less than stellar federal prosacutor.
Sure glad she is now gone from Arizona, however...she is now coming under increasing heat for her ineptness, and may well be sacked in the future.
