Former Cathay Pacific Pilots invited back...
Emails from Flying Management have been sent out to former Cx pilots asking if they would be interested in a return to Cx in their previous rank. Wonder how many former Cathay Pacific Pilots will return and those that do, how many will actually stay?
I can see that this might upset a few, including the Dragon Air/Cathay Dragon guys and girls who started out from SO and FO, when they were hired by Cathay Pacific after KA ceased operations. I know I know, different Airline, Seniority list, AOC & Contract...

Why would they return? Basically accepting a death sentence. Most will already be earning more and not to mention the reduction in QOL and huge increase in COL if you do choose to return. I’ve met quite a few ex-Cx guys during my short stint in the US and they’re all over the moon to be free from the hell-hole that was HK.
I would love to know if anyone does take that offer though.

”Hey there!
We’re going to treat you like crap, savage your salary, lock you up at Penny’s Bay and force you away.
Would you like to come back for more?”
In the middle of a global pilot shortage.
To a place where freedoms have been savaged.
Tempting 🤔

But hang on, at fleet forum we were told "There is no shortage of pilots".
Can't see many diving back into the smelly waters of the "Fragrant Harbour". It would be a brave man contemplating commuting from the bottom of the seniority list. Lots of people getting left behind at the staff travel desk at the moment.
I don't think any amount of cool aid would wash the bad taste out of ones mouth from the treatment that ended with parting ways with the company in the first place. Maybe direct entry onto a base for new joiners only. Nothing would surprise me. This place has always been a touch "light on" where fairness has been concerned.
Good luck to all involved, and it's amazing what a fella will endure to feed the family.

"Listen, we know you left for some reason, however.. Maybe you'd like to come back?"
"Are things better? No.. why would you ask?"
"Actually they are worse than when you left, we have punitive rostering now, in case you call in sick. Remember those o days at the end of the trip? Yes, those.. Well, when we invariably cancel a trip on you, we will take those o days and turn them into, you guessed it: reserve!"
"ah yes, the request system, I'm afraid that's broken too now."
"So, when are you thinking of coming back?"

Not a chance
Left CX 5 years ago and joined another national carrier. Since then I have been able to secure going part time and have control over rosters and not felt the death of a thousand cuts anytime I interacted with the company. I doubt anyone would go back to CX after the treatment they have suffered. The market is getting better for jobs and I wish my ex colleagues all the best.

Lets also not forget the company paying less MPP to their crew each month. The "discrepancy" in wages owed and wages paid says alot about the overall situation here in hong kong. 0 labour rights, 0 f*cks given to resilient crew, soon to be 0 properly qualified pilots flying the steel tubes.

HK was paradise before the protest movement. Let’s be honest, americans don’t like not living in the US, even if they are from OK!
They either totally embrace it and go local or hate it. I remember in my previous life seeing a KFC tent in the desert in Egypt and Usaf was there for just a month.
CX is a different story, toxic environment due to horrible management.

Yeah,
got a letter to come back. Made a nice paper plane….
Cathay reputation is forever tarnished. People ask what happened on the flight deck.
Much happier where I am at.
Idiots.

Just like the Hong Kong government putting the cart before the horse with their 'absolutely no covid restrictions in Hong Kong' to entice tourists back before they are lifting the mask mandate.
CX is trying to get people back before they actually improve on the horrible COS, which made people leave in the first place.
Total mismanagement and cognitive dissonance on what situation they are finding themselves in, how did they ever manage to last this long?
