Bases !!!

Wow! So many bases slots announced!
I had given hope after all those years it took for the "imminent" basing review.

When I think I was about to vote NO to the TA...
I am so glad they decided to finally release the information the day before the vote starts.
I now have to change my mind if I certainly maybe eventually want to be able to bid and perhaps hopefully be awarded one (not on the 747).

Thank you dear leaders!

They're dangling a carrot to get a yes vote.
After the vote the carrot will be removed and out comes the stick regardless of a yes or no vote...

The logic is also bass ackwards. If the TA passes, more training captains, right? Wrong, the TA passing initially reduces available training captains because all those new TCs need to be trained by existing TCs. So the training pipeline for type changes and upgrades on the base actually gets narrower before it starts getting wider. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Notice how there is no actual release for bidding of base slots, just a rinky dink proposal from the DFO in an email. Not holding my breath...

Bases are NOT open!. This carrot is complete bullshit. The maybe numbers DFO is talking about won't even cover retirements and resignations. They could put over 100 on Aus and still not be back to levels prior to the basing freeze. POS18 is the end of bases. Vote NO.

This is the same bullshit as the 1% pay 'increase'. 1% is less than inflation, so its a pay cut (again).

If you want a base get a job with an airline in that country.

Sorry boys, but your training ban isnít really hurting us..Except that we canít even train those few people that have to switch types when they have to go on a base.
But otherwise itís not even making a dent in our training capacity... nothing to see here! Move along...

I'm hearing a lot of talk about bases - on various WhatsApp groups , Yammer etc. Have I missed the NTC confirming the opening of bases?

The only thing I have read is a conveniently timed email with some nice round numbers that have been pulled out of the DFOs backside.

For those believing in this carrot, send me a PM. I've got a lovely used motor I'm trying to sell. It's a cracker . Honest.

And here you show your ignorance of the system.
New trainers are trained by the Standards Teams... the rest of the trainers are still available for training and they will be supplemented by the newly trained trainers.
I'm not saying vote yes, or no... just get your facts correct!

The TB is strangling them, slowly but surely. They can barely keep up with the regulatory training events, never mind new upgrades. If this deal goes through, you will see an exponential increase in 2 SO flights (probably all of Europe). That will result in a much longer delay to upgrade for the SO ranks than any extension of the TB. They can't even give us all of our leave, so what does that tell you about numbers...? This management are trying their last great bluff. Once we throw this back, they will have to either come up with a proper package that we can vote for, or they can accept that the airline will slowly die...and that most of us will leave anyway (therefore, no longer my problem). The only sensible vote is NO, as it is the only way to protect and value our worth. Vote NO.

I have it on good authority that there is only ONE aircraft rated BTC on the 777. The other two have turned 60 and the company will not permit them to continue. So at great expense they will upgrade two managers to aircraft BTC ( securing their pay increase ) and let the experience of decades dissolve. Meantime, if the only remaining aircraft BTC goes sick then the wheels come off. Totally self serving incompetence by the FOP management who want their management jobs and BTC jobs all at the same time. This age 60 rule was introduced by HC when he was GMT supposedly to promote career advancement but with the TB in place this has stopped and his replacement and now DFO hasn't the numpty to put it right by extending the current BTC's. Ludicrous waste of money upgrading his pals in FOP's and loosing any independence between office and training.

I think that the 60 rule for BTC’s is part of the ICAO regulations .
I May well be wrong and very willing to be corrected

Actually not Max. Those standards teamsí guys are currently performing training and checking tasks now. If they start training trainers, those duties fall to others. Itís not like they are doing nothing now just waiting for new TCs. Perhaps youíre the ignorant one. The training pipeline is only so wide. Training new trainers makes it narrower before it gets wider. Common sense!

Actually no. This is a company rule dreamed up by Henry C when he was GMT. HKCAD have no such age restrictions, nor have ICAO. What ICAO does have is a LHS ban on pilots over 65 ( France 60 ) BUT and here is the cruncher, that only applies to normal airline operations ( the AOC ).The BTC role lies outside the normal AOC ops and is classed as a test pilot programme. Ironoically where the company ruling collapses is that non aircraft rated BTC's can fly with a brand new JFO ( straight from aircraft base training ) on their first 4 LFUS sectors. Infact only BTC's can do these first 4 sectors. This age discrimmination was introduced by HC to promote career advancement. Unfortunately he missed his upgrade by 3 months and never got to BTC. Currently CPBoeing and FTM Boeing are upgrading themselves to fill the void in violation of CAD guidelines to keep C&T duties and management duties separate. But when you have a GMO who writes and interprets the FTL's on behalf of the CAD what do you expect. More jobs for the boys.

The fact that they are asking where people would like to be based via a survey during the voting week is hilarious. If and when the bases do open, it will only be at the location (and in the number of positions) that they will have deemed efficient and beneficial to the operation of the company. Itís not like they are going to base pilots where they donít need them or in numbers greater than they need! This survey is only to get people excited so they vote yes to the proposal. Well played though.

The previous DFO promised a statement on bases before the end of 2018. So as not to highlight her complete incompetence the current DFO put out a statement saying bases were being considered in the future. The recent notices all say "POSSIBLE" bases. Yes numbers have been published but these are not promises, these are projections and ONLY if the vote is a yes. Now you would think if new base slots were viable then the company would announce them and open up the bidding today. They haven't. What they have done is wet the appetite of the poor beggers who have hung on for almost a decade in the hope of an escape to their homes. The GMA talks of goodwill, well how about making bases available immediately whatever the vote result. There's a gesture of goodwill but it won't happen. Strings need to be attached to any base offer and these will not be revealled until after the vote.

Don't be fooled guys and girls. vote NO

My god, I am invited to express my interest in a base!
Maybe they will open up a base just for MEEE!
They are so nice!

They are straight manipulating the vote with POSSIBLE bases, if it is such an asset, why not put in the contract, with everything else... oh, now I know, itís because they might want to use this again.
What a bunch of £><^##.

Lets usher in this great new era of mutual understanding and respect with this manipulation on their part, great start fellas!

what a joke
